Robert De Niro is commemorating a birthday that is significant to him.
On Thursday, the actor was 80 years old, and he got birthday wishes and tributes on social media, including a heartfelt post from his daughter Drena De Niro, who re-shared a post from his friend Debi Mazar that included a black-and-white portrait of her father.
“Happy 80 years old to you, you know who!” Drena, who is 51 years old, commented on Mazar’s picture with the following caption: “Happy Birthday Bob! I hope you have a wonderful 80th birthday! Sending lots of love to you and your family! Have a good time later on! 🕺🏿❤🇮🇹🌶💯💋🍾.”
A night before his big day, Robert De Niro went to see a performance of FLEX at Lincoln Center in New York City on Wednesday night. After the show, he went backstage for a meet-and-greet with the cast as well as a picture opportunity.
It has been a hectic year for Robert De Niro, both professionally and personally. He most recently acted in the comedy About My Father, and he is also building anticipation for the awards season with the forthcoming picture Killers of the Flower Moon, which was directed by Martin Scorsese.
And at the beginning of April, Robert De Niro became a father once again as he welcomed the birth of his seventh child, a baby girl whom he and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen called Gia Virginia.
Gia made her first appearance on television with her mother and Gayle King on CBS Mornings. During the interview, Chen said that having a daughter has made her and her husband’s life “more fun.” Gia also appeared on the show.
When they were seen holding hands and kissing publicly together in August of 2021, relationship allegations began to circulate about the two of them. They have known each other for many years before to their collaboration on a film in 2015. The film The Intern, which starred Robert De Niro, included Chen, a martial arts teacher, in one of the supporting roles.
During her conversation with King, 68, Chen said that the quality of her boyfriend that she values the most is the extent to which he is devoted to his family: “How much he loves his family.” That has the potential to bring a few tears to my eyes.
The year 2023 was packed with pleasant achievements for Robert De Niro, but the year also brought the Oscar winner a tragic loss with the passing of his grandson Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez.
On the first of this month, Drena commemorated the 20th birthday of her son by posting family images on Instagram. Her son was discovered d.e.a.d on July 2 in New York City after an unintentional overdose of drugs.
On July 3, Robert De Niro sent the following statement to the publication PEOPLE: “I’m extremely grieved by the demise of my darling grandson Leo. We are really grateful to everyone who has expressed their sympathies to us. We respectfully request that we be allowed some privacy as we mourn the passing of Leo.
