Nick Jonas is reflecting on the day he wed Priyanka Chopra. In a recent interview, the singer, who tied the knot with Priyanka Chopra in a ceremony that spanned several days in 2018, discusses the “surprisingly difficult” aspect of the wedding preparations.

“There’s this one moment in Indian weddings where the bride and groom are lifted on the shoulders of their family members.” They compete with one another to see who can be the first to drape the garland over the other. And it’s very challenging, particularly when you factor in the fact that Pri and I are both very competitive people. Nevertheless, whatever member of the family does it first will become the head of that branch of the family.

“So it’s really for the family members to feel pride, and that’s just a funny game,” he says. “So it’s really for the family members to feel pride.” However, it is a really uplifting experience and a wonderful opportunity for all of the families to communicate with one another.

In addition to the traditional Indian ceremony, the couple also celebrated their union with a Western wedding, which was presided over by Kevin Jonas Sr., Jonas’ father. The experience of mixing numerous customs into their wedding let Jonas recognize “how similar the different religions actually are and how the ceremonies themselves have a lot of heart.”

According to him, “the most important thing is that we were able to really connect with our families and with each other,” which was made possible by the experience.

In January of 2022, the couple expanded their family with the birth of a daughter, Malti, who was carried through a surrogate. The next month, in July of the same year, Jonas gave an interview to ET in which he discussed being a parent.

“It will absolutely alter the course of your life. [Malti] is very remarkable. “It’s a great source of happiness for me,” he remarked. “Everything is in order.”

Since then, the singer has resumed her career and is now on tour with the Jonas Brothers. Jonas said to ET earlier this month that becoming a father while on tour is “an adjustment.”
