Thursday marked the announcement that the third season of The Summer I Turned Pretty will be coming to Prime Video. After more than tripling its popularity over the previous month, the program that is loved by its audience is presently broadcasting the remaining episodes of its second season.

“We’ve been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty, making Summer Fridays a phenomenon in the entertainment world,” Vernon Sanders, president of television for Amazon and MGM Studios, said in a statement. “We’ve been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced Summer Fridays.” This amusing and genuinely touching series has showed the breadth of our client base by appealing to a youthful and varied group of viewers, and it has proved that we have a large consumer base.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a romantic comedy that is based on a series of books written by Jenny Han. The film follows Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung) and her brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno) as they seek for love during their family vacations at the picturesque Cousins Beach.

Belly’s older brother, Steven, is played by Sean Kaufman, while the mother of the children, Laurel, is portrayed by Jackie Chung. Susannah Fisher, the mother of Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher, is portrayed by Rachel Blanchard on the show.

The first season followed Belly as she went on her traditional family vacation to the made-up beach known as Cousins Beach with her mother and Steven. They reside with Susannah and her two kids, Conrad and Jeremiah, throughout their time there. Belly is divided between the two of them romantically. Following the recurrence of Susannah’s illness, fans of season 2 saw Belly struggle to make a decision between the two men, Conrad and Jeremiah, who were at odds with one another. During this time, an unwelcome guest shows up to the Cousins’ beautiful beach home, which puts its future in jeopardy.

ET went behind the scenes with Tung and the rest of the cast before the second season’s launch. “I have so much love for these people.” Tung had said this to ET at the time. “It’s really wonderful to be doing what we love together in this enchanted summer world,” they said. “This summer is going to be amazing.”

Briney, who also stars in the movie and works with Tung, chimed in to say that “it’s all been really fun,” adding that “there’s been a lot of really cool things to film.” I really like the way that this narrative is progressing, both in terms of the path that it is following this season and the way that it is being faithful to the source material while at the same time deviating from it a little bit. Reading the scripts is a lot of fun in general because in some ways it develops characters who were not covered in the book. It’s been a high point for sure.”

According to Amazon, production on season 3 was formally given the go-ahead before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes began; but, production won’t get underway until the strikes are resolved.

The second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty is now available to watch on Prime Video, and new episodes will continue to be added on a weekly basis up to the season finale on August 18.
