Since the passing of Tony Bennett a month ago at the age of 96, Lady Gaga has not been able to stop thinking about him.
On Thursday, the singer best known for her hit “Bad Romance” took some time out of her busy schedule to remember and honor the late jazz great on what would have been his 97th birthday.
“Have a wonderful birthday, Tony. Tony Bennett Day is observed annually on August 3. A day that calls for a smile. Gaga, who is 37 years old, posted on Instagram that she will celebrate her fans more often than once a year. “I will celebrate you every time I’m on stage singing jazz music. I will celebrate you every time I’m with your family. Every time I walk down the streets of New York, I will look around and remember all that you did for this city and the whole world. ”
The singer also shared three photographs with the caption, in which she can be seen sitting in front of a food cart while wearing a black handbag, black sunglasses, a black beret, and a black dress all at the same time.
Late in the month of July, Gaga posted yet another heartfelt remembrance on Instagram that was devoted to the late singer.
The pop artist lamented, “I will miss my friend forever,” beside a picture that showed the two of them sharing a bear embrace inside of a dressing room.
“I will miss singing with him, recording with him, talking with him, and being on stage together,” Gaga said of Bennett, who passed away on July 21 at the age of 96. Bennett had been ailing for some years.
“Every time I was with Tony, it seemed like I was living in a different era. She went on to explain that Tony and she have a mystical ability. “As a vocal pair, we breathed new life into the song by jointly bringing it into the present day and transporting ourselves to a different time period. However, it was not a performance. Our connection was one that was really genuine.
She continued by saying that Bennett “showed me how to keep my spirits high and my head screwed on straight.”
“He had a positive outlook on life, and he felt that both work and living should be of high quality. Plus, there was the gratitude…Tony was always appreciative,” she stated before going on to describe the significant personal events in Bennett’s life, such as his marching alongside Martin Luther King Jr. and serving in the military during World War II.
“I’ve been going through the stages of grief ever since Tony passed away. We said our goodbyes in a really emotional and heartfelt way,” Gaga said. “Despite the fact that there was a gap of half a century between us, he remained my buddy. My one and only honest companion”

After Gaga’s performance at the Robin Hood Foundation charity dinner in 2011, Gaga and Bennett met for the first time, and the two quickly became “fast friends.”
Bennett said in an interview with PEOPLE in 2016 that of their first encounter, “ever since then, we’ve just been close.” “We absolutely adore sharing the stage with one another.”
The first time he worked with Lady Gaga was in 2011 when they recorded a rendition of “The Lady Is a Tramp” from Babes in Arms for his album Duets II. Cheek to Cheek was the title of the duo’s first album as a joint effort, which was released three years later.
In August of 2021, at Radio City Music Hall, they gave their “One Last Time: An Evening with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga” event, which was their last performance together as a group.
