NBA player Jaylen Brown, who had recently signed a large new deal, recently expressed his desire to utilize his position to help others less fortunate than himself.
Brown allegedly said that his goal is to utilize the “generational wealth” for the greater good at a news conference that took place on Wednesday after the guard signed an NBA record five-year, $303.7 million supermax contract deal with the Boston Celtics.
Brown, who is 26, reportedly said, “I want to launch a project to bring Black Wall Street here in Boston,” which was reported by CNN and ESPN. “I want to address the inequality of wealth that exists here. I believe there are analyses that support the idea that reducing the wealth gap might potentially be something that is better intended for the economy as a whole.
He continued by saying, “With the biggest financial deal in NBA history, it makes sense to talk about one year investment in community. However,… the wealth disparity here that nobody wants to talk about is top five in the US (and) is something that we can all improve on it.” It’s a little unnerving.”
Brown is quoted as saying that he hopes that his version of a “Black Wall Street” will “create new jobs, new resources, new businesses, and new ideas” for the Northeast corridor of the United States. This would be similar to what the original Black Wall Street did in the early 20th century for affluent Black residents in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“Boston could be a fully integrated self-sufficient hub,” he said. I believe that Boston might serve as a model for addressing the issue of wealth inequality not just in the United States, but also in other parts of the globe.
The two-time NBA All Star has discussed his desire to assist the Black community in the past, so this is not the first time he has spoken publicly on the subject.
In the year 2020, Brown gave an interview to PEOPLE in which he discussed his involvement in the Commit to C.A.R.E. (Care About Racial Equity) Now program, which was sponsored by Dove Men+Care. Chris Paul, Donovan Mitchell, Aaron Gordon, and Danny Green are all fellow NBA players, and Brown collaborated with all four of them on the project.
As an extension of their efforts to raise awareness about systematic racism in the wake of the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the campaign attempted to modify the preconceptions that are often associated with black males. This work was done in response to the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
Brown was quoted as saying to People magazine at the time, “How Black men are looked at and represented in culture is important.” It takes a lot of work to attempt to shift some of the narratives that are prevalent in the media.
In addition, he said, “It’s important to get more positive roles [in movies and television] and things like that, and create a demand for people to see that, so that they can see Black men and women in a positive light,” he continued. “Those roles were extremely rare, and while I do think there are more now than there were in the past, you wouldn’t see a lot of African-American movies or TV shows that were successful because there simply weren’t any positive narrative [stories] for African-Americans.” “While I do think there are more now than there were in the past, you wouldn’t see a lot of African-American movies or TV shows that were successful.”
