Tina Knowles-Lawson has initiated the divorce proceedings between herself and Richard Lawson.
According to court records obtained by PEOPLE, Knowles-Lawson, 69, filed for divorce on Wednesday, alleging irreconcilable differences, and identified their date of separation as Tuesday. The filings state that the couple had been living apart since Tuesday. The fashion designer has asked the court to return her birth name, Celestine Knowles, as well as to terminate the court’s jurisdiction to award spousal support to either her or Lawson, who is 76 years old. In addition, she has requested that the court restore her birth name. The request for a remark made by PEOPLE to Knowles-Lawson was not immediately met with a response from a representative of the company.
After being married on a boat off the coast of Newport Beach, California, on April 12, 2015, the former couple was together for a total of eight years throughout their marriage. Both Knowles and Lawson, who had started dating in 2013, were already married when they tied the knot again.
2009 marked the beginning of the end for Knowles-Lawson’s marriage to her former husband, Beyonce, as well as her relationship with Solange Knowles’ father and ex manager Mathew Knowles. The couple had been together for more than three decades. 2011 was the year when their divorce was finally formalized.
On the occasion of their third wedding anniversary, the mother of two children posted an image from their wedding day on Instagram along with the following caption: “Cannot believe it has been 3 years since we did the dang thing!!!! Like you’re walking on air You are the source of my spiritual sustenance, and I adore you with all of my existence.I hope you’ve had a wonderful year, Baby!”
Her most recent post on Instagram with Lawson was in March, and it was a shot that she shared at a Vanity Fair Oscar Party. “Never been one to waste some good light!!!” she said in the description of the photo. My boyfriend, Mr. Richard Lawson, and I were at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last night, and we just had to sneak a photo together. In April of last year, the fashion designer made an appearance on the Tamron Hall Show, where she discussed her connection with Tamron. “I’ve known Richard for 40 years, and when we reconnected, it was, just, I felt like, a gift from God,” she added. “I’ve known Richard for 40 years.” Because I prayed, I want you to know that I truly mean that. After being married for 33 years, going through a divorce was a really terrible experience for me. Despite this, I always intended on getting married again if it was in God’s plan to do so since I like being married. “Being in a relationship is something I enjoy doing,”
