After sinking his second hole-in-one in his entire life on Saturday afternoon, Steph Curry lost his mind, and with good cause. He had just accomplished a career feat. The NBA star teed off at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and his shot at the 152-yard 7th hole, which was the longest course in the event, bounced into the cup for the first time in the competition’s history.
Curry pulled off his hat, threw it into the air, and then rushed down the course with his hands up in the air after understanding that he had just accomplished an impossible task. Curry was still sprinting when he removed the glove from his left hand, hurled it in the air, and leapt for excitement before eventually reaching the flagpole for the seventh hole. His caddy and playing companion were lagging considerably behind him at this point.
After the lengthy run, when Curry was out of breath, he subsequently revealed to NBC Sports that it was his second ace on a golf course in his whole life.
“I’m locked in right now,” said Curry, “but to do it on this hole is unbelievable.” Wow. Wow.”
Curry said that jogging 152 yards at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course is more challenging than running the length of an NBA court (94 feet), but he added that he had no problem with being out of breath for the rest of the day. He said that he had no problems about it.
Before continuing the celebration, he made a witty remark by saying, “I’ll be out of breath for the rest of the day for a good reason, though.”
For years, Curry has been a part of the competition, despite the fact that he is a passionate golfer and has played the game with former President Barack Obama. Curry has already been in the top five twice, but he is still looking for his first victory after going so long without one. But despite the fact that he is starving, he recently shared with ET that he is trying not to get too worked up over the fight.
He said, “Honest to God, it’s all about having fun and trying to act like it’s a normal round of golf,” which means the objective is to play as if it were a regular game. You can kind of freak yourself out a little bit by telling yourself, “No, it’s a tournament.”
But there’s no getting past the fact that Curry, who is notoriously competitive, is gunning for victory in this contest.
“That’s why I keep coming back,” he joked after a moment’s thought. “Winning is absolutely essential to me.”
