When Tam is in need of some solace, he can always count on his buddy Elodie to be there for him. Tam is a blind puppy who lives at the Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir (SARA). He also has Ehlers-Danlos disease, which causes his skin to be especially brittle and his joints to be more prone to arthritis.
It would seem that Elodie and the other cats at the refuge are aware that Tam need more TLC, and the tribe of cats at SARA have made it their goal to assist Tam in any way they can.
“Tam regularly shares his bed with at least two cats,” Hazel Skeet, a long-time volunteer with SARA, said in an interview. All of the cats in the house love him and constantly purr and rub his back.
The Farm Refuge is one of three shelters that are part of the SARA network and provide care for older or ill dogs, as well as freshly rescued dogs that are ready to be adopted by new families. The Farm Refuge also provides a temporary home for homeless cats; there are around 200 of them in the refuge at the moment.
Skeet said that it was pretty difficult for anybody to sit down at the Farm Refuge without immediately being surrounded by cats. “To be completely honest, it is quite difficult for anyone to sit down at the Farm Refuge without being immediately surrounded by cats,” “However, Tam is by far the most well-liked canine. The cats are aware that he will keep a low profile around them and treat them gently. Tam savors the opportunity to cuddle up to him affectionately and finds him to be the ideal cushion for a nap.
Around eight years and nine months ago, Tam was born in the shelter. As a result of their Ehlers-Danlos diagnosis, he and his sister Daccia stayed in the shelter even after the majority of their other siblings had been adopted.
The hereditary disease does not have a treatment at this time, which is unfortunate; nonetheless, Tam and his sister are properly taken care of by both their feline and human lovers.
Skeet said that in addition to the cats, Tam has a tight relationship with his sister Daccia. The two of them often engage in play together first thing in the morning and just before going to night. “They are very close friends,” she remarked. “They hang out all the time.”
Tam enjoys a more relaxed way of life, one in which he can kick back, relax, and spend time with the people he cares about.
“He spends the rest of his day sitting in the sun or shade, taking in the sounds and smells of the refuge,” Skeet said. “He spends the majority of his day.” “Every once in a while, a small puppy may approach him to say hello, which he is willing to put up with, but he much rather chooses to snuggle up with a feline companion.
“Because he is blind, Tam is very wary of strangers,” Skeet remarked. Once you have earned his confidence, though, he is a really friendly and cuddly boy. This may take some time, but it is well worth the effort. When I go to the sanctuary, he immediately walks over to meet me since he knows my voice (and scent), and I consider it such an honor that he does so.
Tam will continue to have the time of his life at the SARA Farm Refuge, where he will be surrounded by his sister and other cats. In addition to this, he may anticipate receiving a great deal of additional soothing massages from the kitties that care for him so much, as is just due to him.
