Hello and welcome, Al Roker, to Good Burger!
The 68-year-old weather anchor from the Today program is scheduled to make a cameo appearance in the forthcoming film Good Burger 2, which is a sequel to the Nickelodeon comedy that first aired in 1997 and starred Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell.
On the edition of his NBC morning program that aired on Tuesday, Roker broke the news by sharing an interview he recorded with Thompson, 45, and Mitchell, 44, when they were working on the film that has been anticipated for a very long time.
Roker said, “Of course, a star of my stature has a custom trailer,” before removing a temporary sticker reading “Al” off a whiteboard that was attached to his trailer. The sticker had read “Al.”
In addition, the program broadcast video of Roker practicing and dancing on set with Thompson and Mitchell. It also showed Roker sitting in a makeup chair, where he quipped, “I’m ready for my close-up!”

The idea for Good Burger originated from a routine that was led by Mitchell during the ’90s Nickelodeon kids’ sketch comedy series All That. In this sketch, Mitchell’s character Ed was often seen accidentally tormenting other characters played by Thompson, as well as other characters. Later on, Thompson and Mitchell both appeared in the film adaptation of Good Burger. Mitchell portrayed the role of high school student Dexter Reed, who is forced to work at the restaurant over the summer. Thompson played the role of the business’s owner.
Fans may expect Thompson and Mitchell to keep loyal to the film’s beginnings, as a press release for the project claims that Dexter and Ed will rejoin in a present-day version of the restaurant with a “hilarious new group of employees.” Although the film does not yet have a release date set, fans should expect Thompson and Mitchell to stay faithful to the film’s foundations.
During their interview with Roker, which aired on Tuesday, the two guys — who also once headlined the All That spinoff comedy Kenan & Kel — hinted at what their characters are doing today, more than 25 years later. Roker conducted the conversation.
“As of right moment, Ed is the owner of Good Burger. It seems like Dex has gone full circle. Because they haven’t seen one other in a few years, things are beginning to fall apart as a result of that,” said Mitchell.
“The usual shenanigans,” Thompson chimed in to add.
When Thompson made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in August 2022, he was questioned about a joint Instagram post that he had made with Mitchell, marking the 25th anniversary of the original film. This led to the announcement that a sequel was in the works. The caption for the photo included the intriguing question, “‘Sup with that, Part 2?!”
Jimmy Fallon, the presenter of the show, remarked, “Are you saying that Good Burger 2 is happening?”
The actor who plays Kenan said, “I would like it to,” “We are working harder than ever on it, so at this point it comes down to meeting the statistics and allowing them to match up. Because I really need those figures.
Thompson told Today’s Al Roker that he and Mitchell are “really proud that we’re making something that everybody can just gather up whoever’s around and go enjoy something together.” The interview was broadcast on Tuesday.
When asked whether he had ever thought about the legendary role he had played throughout the years, Mitchell said, “Of course.” Ed is a blessing that just keeps on giving. After putting the wig back on and passing a mirror, I greeted an old acquaintance by saying, “Hello, old friend.” …and it was like, ‘Let’s do this.'”
