The Cape of Good Hope SPCA received a report about a dog that had found cover beneath a slab of concrete on the beach, and the dog ended up being buried alive as a result of its actions. Rescuers immediately leapt into action in order to save the canine. They weren’t sure whether they would be successful, but they knew they had to give it a go nonetheless.
When Investigator Lee Prins arrived at the location where the dog had been seen most recently, he did not waste any time and immediately started digging. He didn’t have a lot of evidence to work with. He had no choice but to continue digging and keep his fingers crossed that he was looking in the appropriate spot for the dog as quickly as he could.
“It was taking too long, but I had to keep reminding myself that if I start to panic, I won’t be of any use to the dog that needs me now,” Prins stated in a news release. “If I start to panic, I won’t be of any use to the dog that needs me now.”
After what seemed like an eternity, Prins located the dog, who would eventually be given the name Courage, and he hurriedly proceeded to check on the dog’s wellbeing.
“When I finally reached him, he was curled up in a ball and he didn’t move — I thought I was too late,” Prins said. “When I finally reached him, he was curled up in a ball and he didn’t move.”
He was not, thank goodness. Although he was terrified and alone and believed that no one would come to his aid, Courage had managed to live in some way. As Prins dragged Courage out of the sand and brought him back to safety, both of them could hardly contain their elation.
The moment that anything was noticed wrong with Courage, she was taken straight to the veterinarian. The struggle that he went through left him with just minor injuries, but the fact that he was on his own for such a long time caused him to have a number of additional problems. His veterinary team devised a strategy to assist him get back on his feet when they discovered that he was filthy and undernourished.
Even though Courage has a long way to go on his road to recovery, the fact that he is no longer in danger is all that really counts at this point.
