On Wednesday, the corpse of a 2-year-old girl who had been reported missing in Michigan was discovered after she had been gone for some time.
Wynter Cole-Smith, who had been missing from the Lansing region since July 2, was located in Detroit by a federal search team at around 6:50 p.m. at the Coleman A. Young International Airport, according to the Lansing Police Chief Ellery Sosebee, who disclosed this information during a news conference held on Wednesday evening.
“This investigation has moved from a case involving a missing child to a homicide investigation,” Sosebee added. “No one had wished for this to be the outcome,” she said. I guarantee that law enforcement will see to it that the family receives the justice that they so rightfully deserve.
Ingham County Prosecutor John J. Dewane stated, “Our hearts are with Wynter’s family as they begin to process and grieve the unnecessary loss of a beautiful 2-year-old child.” “Our hearts are with Wynter’s family as they begin to process and grieve the loss of a beautiful 2-year-old child,” “Our office supports the efforts of our law enforcement partners at the state and federal level to hold those responsible for Wynter’s loss accountable for their actions as this investigation shifts from a missing person investigation to a homicide investigation,”

Wynter, who was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with rainbows on it, was allegedly kidnapped from her house on July 2 by Rashad Trice, 26, who is suspected of stabbing the child’s 22-year-old mother. This information was reported by ClickOnDetroit, the Lansing State Journal, and the Detroit Free Press. Wynter was wearing a white t-shirt with rainbows on it when she was last seen.
When the mother returned after going to a neighbor’s house to contact the police, she discovered that Wynter, Trice, and the mother’s white 2013 Chevrolet Impala had all been taken. According to the publications, police said that the mother’s kid, who was one year old at the time, was still in the flat when they arrived and was uninjured.
According to the police in St. Clair Shores, Trice was apprehended at around 5 in the morning on July 3 in the Detroit region after reportedly escaping. The police claim that Trice fled the scene at a high rate of speed, collided with another patrol vehicle, and then resisted arrest at the site of the incident. On the other hand, Wynter was not there with him. The next day, on July 3, the police made public a map that depicted where they believe Trice may have been after leaving the Lansing residence on July 2.
In connection with the attack on Wynter’s mother, Trice has been charged with assault with the intent to murder, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, first-degree Home Invasion, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, aggravated domestic violence, and felonious assault, as stated in a press release issued by the office of the prosecutor in Ingham County. These charges are in addition to those of felonious assault and unlawful imprisonment.
“Trice was charged as a violent habitual fourth offender,” the announcement states further.
The allegations against Trice are set to be heard in court on July 13, and the defendant, Trice, is now being detained without bail. It is not apparent if he has filed a plea or whether he has an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
