The name John Goodman should absolutely be brought up in conversations about famous character performers. Since he started his career in the 1980s, he has made significant progress in several areas. Over the course of his career, he has appeared in over 160 projects, ranging from movies to television programs. Goodman gained widespread recognition for his performance as Dan Conner on the critically acclaimed comedy Roseanne, which aired on ABC. Goodman reached his breaking point when he found himself in a situation in which he was “still drinking” yet “still shaking.” Goodman said, “I got so lucky because I was still getting hired for things, but the fact of the matter is that I was drinking at work.” Goodman added:
“I would have trouble articulating my words. I was under the impression that I had everyone fooled. However, when I had a few drinks in me, the apples of my cheeks would go really red. I basically looked like a stop sign.”
Goodman came to the conclusion that his drinking habit had deteriorated to the point that it was no longer within his control after he had a “long weekend” during which he drank heavily. He was aware that he needed assistance, so he contacted his wife. “She made some phone calls, and she got me into a treatment center,” Goodman said of the woman. “And after going through the process of detoxing there, I realized that I enjoy the sensation.”
Goodman continued to prioritize his health after he stopped drinking and started working out regularly, which led to his losing weight. Page Six claims that he used to weigh close to 400 pounds at one point. However, the actor started his adventure to reduce weight in 2007, and he put in a lot of effort both to drop the weight and to keep it off.
Goodman added, “In the old days, I would take three months off, lose sixty or seventy pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever, and then just go back to my old habits.” “I decided that I would take it easy this time. Move, exercise. I’m getting to the point in my life where I can no longer afford to just sit around.”
The actor continued, “It was basically just portion control and ‘I don’t need it,'” he said. I literally was stuffing everything I could into my mouth.
In addition, in 2015, Goodman made his debut after his weight reduction of one hundred pounds at the opening of his film “Trumbo.”
Given that they have been married for more than three decades, Hartzog has undoubtedly played a significant role in Goodman’s life. In an interview with ELLE from 2012, Goodman described how he had first met his wife during a Halloween party held at Tipitina’s music club. He went on to Explain:
“At the time, we were filming ‘Everybody’s All-American.'” I went to this Halloween party, and when she saw me there, she greeted me with a hello. I couldn’t understand why somebody who was so stunningly attractive would speak to me.
In an interview that aired in 2021 on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Goodman spoke more on their first encounter with one another. He said, “She kind of thought I was a zombie, so I had a buddy of mine keep track of her, and we started dating a year later.” “Yeah, I suppose you could call it stalking, but it was at a great distance.”
In an interview that took place in 2018, on “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” Goodman stated that he wasn’t a romantic person, but the tale of how he proposed to his girlfriend suggests otherwise. His proposal to Hartzog took place “on the banks of the Mississippi River.” He proceeded by saying, “We knew it was coming for a while now, but yeah, we actually went to the jewelry store to get the ring before we went down to the river.”
In October of 1989, Goodman and Hartzog became husband and wife. The year after that, they became parents to their daughter, Molly Goodman, who is currently employed in the entertainment sector as a production assistant. After some time, the family moved to the Garden District in New Orleans, which is situated in the state of Louisiana.
