The 2023 BET Awards were held on Sunday night and presented one of the finest with flowers.
In the course of “culture’s biggest night,” Busta Rhymes was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award, which was handed to him by Marlon Wayans and Swizz Beatz. During his acceptance speech, he imparted a message of motivation to the audience and became emotional as he reflected on receiving the award.
Rhymes went on to explain to Kevin Frazier of ET, who was waiting for him backstage at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles after the concert, just what it was that moved him to tears as he was giving his speech.
“While I was acknowledging everyone, I found myself thinking about them. Rhymes remarked, “I was thinking about the ones I couldn’t get to because I ain’t have enough time.” “And I’m looking at my kids for the first time all together at such an important moment in my life,” the speaker said. “[And] I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

On Sunday, the musician had a concert, and some of his six children were in the crowd. Rhymes revealed that it was the love and support of his children that truly impacted him.
“I ain’t going to lie, and one thing I didn’t want to say on the stage is that, as I’m looking at my kids, there were a lot of times when I had to leave home to do this s**t to make sure they were straight,” the speaker said. “I ain’t going to lie.” And I carried around that sense of shame for a very long time because it’s possible that I missed someone’s graduation. You understand what I’m trying to convey; it’s possible that I forgot someone’s birthday. He found himself thinking, “I might have missed my chance to teach my kid how to ride a bike.” However, when they became older, they were able to comprehend. And I am really appreciative because it sometimes makes me feel like I may have let them down in the past when I see how proud of me they are today.
“It was challenging to look at them so happy,, and still feel like I got work to do to make them happier,” he continued. “It was challenging to look at them so happy,, and still feel like I got work to do.”
During his acceptance speech, the artist, who is 51 years old, was surprisingly candid and sentimental about his career and the trajectory of his life. He is known for his rapid-fire delivery and intricate rhymes, but during his speech, he got real about these topics.
“Okay, that’s good. Therefore, I’m going to shout it from the rooftops. “I do want to cry,” Rhymes said, to which the crowd responded with a thunderous round of applause. Then, after pausing for a while, he recalled a story about how he launched his career nearly three decades ago, and how much his passion for the trade is still burning bright in his heart today.

He said, “I’m going to say I am grateful that the blessing that has been bestowed upon me and this gift that I have been given and this fire that continues to burn as a passion in my soul, that allows me to get into any situation — from the stage to collabing with whoever — and making sure that I am far from the weak link.” “Because I take pleasure in being able to walk away from a situation and say, ‘I bust a**!'”
“It’s just me trying to do my duty to continue to advance the culture and continue to contribute in a significant way,” he went on to say. “I see so many people in here that I have known and grown with for a long time, you’re watching me grow and I love y’all and I know y’all love me,” she said. “I’ve grown with you, and I’ve known you for a long time.”
The poignant address was followed by a brief video package that showcased Busta’s achievements in music, film, and television. The video package featured celebrities like as Diddy, Pharrell Williams, Janet Jackson, and Dave Chappelle, among others, commenting on the performer’s remarkable legacy.
The actors and actresses discussed the significant contributions Busta has made to the film business, such as his roles in a number of movies, such as Higher Learning, Shaft, and Halloween: Resurrection.
The BET Awards are here in their full glory. Make sure that you stay up to date with ET’s list of winners throughout the night.
