Frederic Forrest, who was most remembered for his portrayal as Sgt. Huston Dyer in The Rose, which earned him an Oscar nomination and starred him alongside Bette Midler, has passed away. He was 86.

On Friday evening, it was Midler who broke the devastating news to the public in a tweet that said, “The legendary and much-loved Frederic Forrest has passed away.” I would want to express my gratitude to all of his admirers and friends for all of the support they have shown over the last several months. It was a pleasure to have him as a friend since he was not only a wonderful actor but also a fantastic human being. He had found his calm.

After a protracted battle with sickness, Forrest passed away on Friday at his home in Santa Monica, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The reason for their passing has not been made public. Back in September, his close friends set up a fundraising campaign on the website GoFundMe in order to assist him in maintaining the financial burden of his caring expenses as he fought his unknown illness. According to the post that was created to raise money for Fredric’s care, the donations “maintained Fredric’s home care for the past six months by paying caregivers to be with him 8 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

Midler made her début in the film industry with this musical drama from 1979, in which she portrayed rock singer Mary Rose Foster, who struggled against her own inner demons. In the end, she develops feelings for the character played by Forrest, an Army sergeant who deserted his post, despite the fact that their relationship was subjected to a variety of obstacles.

Mark Rydell would go on to helm The Rose, which would go on to be nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Actress in a Leading Role (Midler) and Best Supporting Actor (Forrest). Both of these awards would be won by Forest. In addition, the picture was nominated for both Best picture Editing and Best Sound. Forrest also received a nomination for a Golden Globe for his work in The Rose, but Melvyn Douglas’s performance in “Being There” ultimately won both trophies.

When the Legends D.i.e was his first film role, and he went on to star in such films as Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, One From the Heart, and Tucker: The Man and His Dream (all of which were directed by Francis Ford Coppola), The Missouri Breaks, It Lives Again, The Two Jakes, and Point Blank, among many more. His cinematic debut was in When the Legends D.i.e. His most recent appearance in a feature film was in “All the King’s Men.”

Forrest has established a reputation for himself on the small screen with his roles in the television shows Larry, Quo Vadis?, Lonesome Dove, and 21 Jump Street.

He was born on December 23, 1936, in Waxahachie, which is located in the northeastern part of Texas. When he was a child, he made it a point to visit all three of the movie theaters that were located in his little town.

“When I was a youngster, I used to put on plays for myself. The only entertainment we had was the photo show. Because there was no television, we went to the movies often,” he said to Alan Mercer in July of 2014. “Waxahachie was home to three different movie theaters. Back in those days, performers would tour with the movies, and as a result, we would sometimes see some cowboy celebrities stop through. Because most small towns offered a Saturday matinee, “B” movies were quite popular in such communities.

Forrest’s sister is the only one he leaves behind.
