Oakley, who had been disoriented while traveling through rural Oklahoma, loitered at a crossroads in the hopes that he would be seen by a passing motorist.

It seemed as if the puppy had been abandoned there with two other canines. The abandoned animals walked aimlessly across the countryside for more than a week, hoping that the humans who had left them there would eventually come back for them. Because there was no other place for them to sleep, the dogs slept in a metal tube beneath the road.

Alysse Matlock, who specializes in animal rescue, was notified when a good Samaritan discovered the black Lab mix and his companions, and she made every effort to get there as quickly as possible.

When Matlock found out how the puppy was doing, it made her feel terrible.

“He was in pretty rough shape, which broke my heart,” Matlock said in an interview with The Dodo.

Oakley was the first of the three to be saved when they found themselves in danger. The other two were apprehended not long after, and they were placed in foster homes so that they could get well.

Matlock drove Oakley back to her house, and once there, he was able to unwind right away. Almost immediately, his friendly attitude became apparent. Matlock, who had been moved by Oakley’s hasty devotion, became enraged when he realized that someone had abandoned him.

Matlock said that “He is such a sweet, smart dog who lives his entire life to please people.” “The fact that people are capable of such cruelty infuriated me.”

Oakley had a wash by Matlock, who also took care of his medical needs. She contacted Safe Haven Animal Rescue, and the organization graciously volunteered to pay for Oakley’s medical needs while Matlock was fostering him.

Oakley’s skin health and eye condition both saw significant improvements in only a few short months. Even though he was enjoying his time in foster care immensely, particularly at lunch and supper, it was time for him to find a family of his own to call his own permanently.

Matlock was certain that Oakley would be taken in by a loving family very soon.

Matlock said that the dog was “such an easy dog.” “From the very beginning, he had no trouble getting along with anyone and everyone!”

One family, in particular, was brought to tears by the uplifting tale of Oakley after seeing the video that Matlock posted on Instagram about the dog. They were aware that they needed to talk to him. The family got in touch with Matlock and set up a meeting with him. It didn’t take long for them to figure out that Oakley was the dog they had been looking for all along.

“They drove all the way from Minnesota to pick him up,” Matlock said. “They were really excited to see him.” Since then, he’s been the ideal complement to our team.
