On July 24, 1951, the city of Phoenix, Arizona was the location where actress Lynda Jean Cordova Carter made her debut. Juana Cordova, her mother, was a Mexican citizen. Through her father’s side, the actor can trace her roots back to both England and Ireland.
Carter was the third and last child in his family. Throughout her youth and adolescence, she was involved in both classical dance and theater. The actress went to Arizona State University for a while, but she eventually left to pursue a career as a singer and to travel the nation with her high school rock band instead.
Throughout her career, the vocalist has been a member of a number of bands, some of which include “Just Us” and “The Relatives.” Her most recent musical endeavor was with a group known as “The Garfin Gathering with Lynda Carter.”
Carter has also competed in and won a number of beauty pageants. In 1972, she was named Miss World USA, and the following year, she placed in the top five in the Miss World pageant. She began her career as an actress after gaining experience in both singing and acting.
She has been a successful performer on stage, in film, and on television. She has also performed in roles. Carter made his start in the acting world by appearing as a guest on many television series, including “Starsky and Hutch.”
On the other hand, the actress gained widespread recognition for her role as Diana Prince in the live-action television series “Wonder Woman.” The actress has been nominated for the Academy Award a total of three times.
A Look Back at Carter’s Childhood and Her Aspirations to Become “Wonder Woman”
When Carter was a kid, she devoured all of the “Wonder Woman” comic books that she could get her hands on. On the other hand, a few of the genuine villains from the comic books were not adapted into characters for her television show.
She endured a great deal of bullying at school owing to the fact that she was so tall, and as a result, she was called Olive Oyl, like the figure from Popeye. As Carter continued on her path to become a well-known actress, she did not allow the bullies to discourage or deter her.
When the call came for the movie actress to audition for the role of Wonder Woman, she only had $25 left in her bank account. This meant that she secured the role at the perfect moment. In order to get this job, Carter competed against two thousand other actresses.
When Carter portrayed Diana Prince in “Wonder Woman,” she became a role model for a lot of other women and she still owns her “Wonder Woman” outfit. She said that “Wonder Woman” had been more than just a fictional character in a cartoon:
When she initially appeared on the scene, there was no one for young women to model their lives after, and that was the primary motivation for her existence. The battle we’ve been waging all along is still ongoing. We still need more female role models.”
The actress said that “Wonder Woman” battled for honesty, fairness, and the hidden part of girls’ selves. She went on to say that every woman had the same moral fiber and kindness that was shown by her character.
The 71-year-old actress stated that in 1975, her successful series nearly didn’t make it on air because TV execs didn’t believe there was a market for a female-led program at the time. She said this was due of the gender stereotypes that existed at the time.
Carter, however, disregarded this when she said that women watched most TV programs in the same amount as men even if the primary characters were male. She went on to say that the approval of the program was well worth it since it grew popular with people of both sexes:
“‘Wonder Woman’ encouraged women to embrace their unique identities. I have been blown away by the number of individuals who have written to me to tell me how much she has been an inspiration to them… She had a delicate but commanding presence. She contributed to the advancement of women’s emancipation.
Because Carter’s persona was so amazing, country musician Steve Wariner decided to write a song about her and release it in 1987 under the title “Lynda.” There is a well-known lyric in the song that goes, “You can be my ‘Wonder Woman,’ and I’ll just be your ‘Spider-Man.'”
The actress’s kind nature was on display once again when she welcomed the student body from the elementary school attended by the son of one of her stunt doubles, Jeannie Epper, onto the production site.
Even when the youngster showed his friends a photo of Epper in a “Wonder Woman” costume that was taken on location, his classmates did not believe him when he told them that his mother worked as a stunt double for Carter in the movie. The students had a chance to see Mr. Epper at work.
Carter has also shown support for the casts that have appeared in various iterations of the “Wonder Woman” movie franchise. When “Wonder Woman” was launched in 2017, she was there to show her support for Gal Gadot. In addition to that, she praised the picture and praised Patty Jenkins, stating that she is a good filmmaker.
Carter says that the identity of “Wonder Woman” encompasses far more than just herself. She is a huge fan of all of the newest movies as well as all of the actors and actresses who have taken on the role of Diana Prince over the last more than seventy-five years.
Carter went on to establish her family when her run on “Wonder Woman” came to an end in 1979. Her children and grandchildren are very important to her.
Carter Lost Their 37th Year of Marriage Together
Carter has been married for a total of two times. In 1977, she wed Ron Samuels, and the couple had a divorce in 1982. Ron Samuels was her first spouse. The former couple did not bring any children into the world together.
In 1984, the actress wed Robert A. Altman, a lawyer, marking the second time she had been married. Because Carter was still going through the process of getting a divorce from her first husband in 1982 when she had her first encounter with Altman at a dinner in Memphis, she was unprepared to meet anybody new. She said that she had decided to go it alone in all aspects of her life.
Fortunately, she decided to give Altman a chance, and the couple has been married for the last 37 years. After their wedding, Carter moved in with Altman in Washington, District of Columbia; she stated that he had a significant impact on her life, including the following:
“When I’m with him, I get a feeling of safety that I’ve never had with anybody else. When I seek for his guidance, he will provide it. I believe that I am, at long last, beginning to discover my own life.”
The actress from “The Cleaner” said that despite the ups and downs in their relationship as well as the ins and outs, theirs was a nice love story. “…and I’d never in my life felt the love and the support and the thrill of having a guy like this,” said Carter. “…and I’d never in my life felt the thrill of having a guy like this.” Their terrible love tale came to a sad and devastating conclusion.
In February of 2021, Altman passed away as a result of myelofibrosis, a rare blood malignancy. Carter is still working on accepting the death of her spouse and moving on with her life. During Carter’s fight against alcoholism, he and Altman served as one other’s pillars of support.
The fact that the actress admitted to being an alcoholic came as a shock to many people since she had been so effective at concealing it in public. However, she was unable to keep it a secret from either her husband or her children. For the sake of their marriage and their children, Altman requested that she give up drinking.
The actress had been clean and sober for eleven years by the time Carter acknowledged that Altman’s appeal convinced her to check herself into treatment. She was grateful to her husband for being there for her whenever she need assistance and shared her gratitude by saying, “I needed help – I begged God in heaven to help me figure this out.”
The actress also said that the journey of rehabilitation taught her that the greatest way to judge a person is by the way they treat the people who love them and the people they love themselves.
When Carter spoke out about her experience at the time when the #MeToo movement exposed a litany of instances of sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry and beyond, her husband was right there by her side.
She said that an abuser who was now being investigated for his actions had targeted her for abuse. Carter did not identify the person who abused her or clarify what took place, but she did mention that her spouse stood by her side throughout the ordeal.
When Altman was accused of fraud in connection with the incident involving the Bank of Credit and Commerce International in 1992, Carter stood by his side and provided assistance. She said to the press:
“If I’m being really honest with you, I am aware that my spouse has not committed any wrongdoing. I am aware that he is a powerful and bright person, a devoted spouse, an outstanding parent, and a good friend; in addition, we adore one another and are moving ahead in our relationship.
In the end, all of the accusations against Altman were dropped. He talked highly of his wife and how she was always there for him. The attorney pointed out that Carter has firm convictions and a deep dedication to his family and life in general. He used the phrase “someone who is not afraid to take chances in life” while describing her.
Carter felt that she had lost a major person and someone with whom she had a wonderful love affair when Altman passed away. This was due to the deep love and powerful relationship that the two had for one another. On the other hand, she said that Altman will continue to reside in her for as long as she is still alive.
Additionally, Carter said that Altman’s passing was a surprise and unexpected event. The actress said that no matter how hard she tries to overcome her loss, she still cries “probably three times a day.”
As she struggled to come to terms with her husband’s passing and pay tribute to his memory, the actress turned once again to her first passion, music. She published the song “Human and Divine,” which she had written as an homage to the couple’s enduring love for one another. In her words:
“It was an honest-to-goodness love story. I was really trying to define love and loss, and I wanted to make sure that the story was about how love affects humans.
Carter said that the next chapter of her life will now be devoted to the challenging work of figuring out who she was without Altman and finding out who she was without him. The couple raised two kids together, both of whom are now grown up and on their own.
The daughter of Carter has inherited her mother’s natural beauty.
Both a daughter and a son were a gift from God to Carter and her husband. On January 14, 1988, their son James Altman was brought into the world. James is a lawyer who received his legal education at George Washington University Law School, which was also his father’s alma mater.
Jessica Altman, the couple’s daughter, was born on October 7, 1990. She is a spitting likeness of her mother and has the same birthday. Jessica received both her law degree and her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Michigan, where she also studied law there.
In the year 2020, Jessica made her legal career debut when she joined the Gibson, Dutch, and Crutcher law firm in Washington, District of Columbia. There, she served as an associate in the litigation section of the company. In the past, she had worked as an intern for the former member of Congress John D. Dingell Jr. in the year 2016.
Jessica continues to follow in her father’s footsteps by practicing law, but she has now expanded her expertise to include work in the entertainment business. Through the manner in which she periodically assisted her mother, Carter’s daughter had consistently shown an interest in singing.
The 32-year-old woman gives a wonderful performance as her mother, but what really sets her apart is that she not only looks but also sounds just like Carter. Similar to her mother, Jessica pursued a career in the music industry. At the age of 31, she debuted both the song and the cover art for the single she had previously published. 2022 saw the release of her self-titled extended play (EP), which included the tracks “No Rules.”
Along the same lines as her mother’s comeback to music, many of the songs that Jessica had published touch on the excruciating sadness that she suffered after the death of her father. Jessica said that her mother was the one who first got her interested in music.
At certain points throughout Carter’s tour, Jessica would accompany her onstage, and the two of them would perfectly compliment each other’s abilities. In 2016, Jessica took a break from her studies at law school in order to perform a duet with her mother at a concert in New York City.
In addition, Carter’s daughter celebrated her 26th birthday in the recording studio, where she assisted her mother in adding vocals to the 2018 album “Red Rock N Blues.” Carter has received nothing but praise from Jessica, who has said that her mother instilled in her the value of being proud of who she is. She made the observation that Carter is the living embodiment of the “Wonder Woman” character:
“All I can say is that I consider myself very fortunate to have a mom who is even more amazing than the character. She taught me how to be strong, she taught me how to be courageous, and she showed me that I could accomplish whatever it is that I want to do and that I did not have to match the ideal that anybody else had for me.
The success of Carter’s children serves as a testament to the excellent job that she has done in her role as a mother. The actress exudes elegance and sophistication despite being well into her 70s at this point. Recently, she was seen attending an event while looking absolutely stunning in a gold little dress.
As she made her way to the T Gen awards, the actress stunned onlookers by pairing the gold little dress with high heels and looking absolutely stunning. A year after she had lost Altman, Carter was seen to be in good spirits and seemed to be doing well with her loss.
At the ceremony, the actress was presented with a leadership award in recognition of her work pushing for the research and therapeutic advancements of T Gen and City of Hope.
Carter, who despite her advanced age maintains a stunning appearance, shared the strategies that she uses to remain so sharp. She said that her daily routine consists of basking in the sun and going for walks. Carter also said that in order to maintain her slim figure, she avoids eating bread and consumes a lot of products containing ginger for the sake of her joints.
According to the singer, having a pattern in her life, such as making her bed first thing in the morning, has been beneficial to her as she transitions into retirement. She pointed out that each of these activities that she participates in contributes to the maintenance of her body, mind, and soul.
At this point, Carter is concentrating on her musical career. She renewed her love for singing and produced a music video of her jazzy interpretation of Rickie Lee Jones’ iconic song “Danny’s All-Star Joint,” which was characterized as having “a seriously flirty energy and sense of fun.” Jason Crain was the one in charge of directing the project.
