According to the old adage, “like attracts like.” It would seem that Luna and Zeus, a little puppy and a 120-pound Great Dane respectively, who fell passionately in love the instant they met, provide evidence that this is the case. If you think you’ve heard all the sweet tales there are to hear about pets, you haven’t heard anything yet about this little love story. The last part of the story will leave you with nothing but feelings of affection.
There is no one who knows where Luna was born or who her parents or siblings are. She was found alone in a cardboard box by the side of the road, and there was no information that could be found that may refer to where she was originally from. After being spotted by a kind Samaritan, the small puppy was taken to Love and Rescue in Houston, Texas, where she is now residing.
A volunteer at the shelter named Dina made the kind offer to take care of the dog in the interim while the shelter searched for a new permanent family. Luna originally needed nearly continuous care. Because of the profound effect that her experience had had on her, she trembled virtually all the time. She was unable to move and could scarcely eat, so she had to be fed by hand, and all she could manage was a few licks at a time.
Dina’s first method of eating was with her hands, but she eventually graduated to using a spoon. It was clear that she was not used to being touched or stroked since she whined every time Dina attempted to pat her and sought to conceal as much as she could due of this. Dina tried to pat her. In an interview with The Dodo, Dina recalled the following: “When I initially obtained her, she was shaking all the time. She was constantly wailing on the floor. The sound was so upsetting it might make anybody cry. It never occurred to me that a dog could seem that sad before.
