Rosco, a little black puppy, was found left in the trash in California and had to figure out how to survive on his own. Over the course of more than a year, the resourceful puppy found his own food, sometimes depending on the generosity of people who stopped by the waste facility to feed him.
Rosco was the subject of several worried onlookers’ attempts to capture him, but they were unsuccessful. That is, until two animal rescue organizations in California, Bakersfield Strays and R.A.D. Rescue made the decision that it was finally time to send the evasive dog to a safe place.
A trap was put up by the rescue workers next to the dump, and then they waited. Rosco stood back and observed the trap from a safe distance for many days, but he did not have the courage to get inside. In due time, the puppy made its way inside. When the steel door swung to its final position, he was finally out of harm’s way.
Because he came across as someone who had such a deep-seated mistrust of other people, nobody expected Rosco to have a particularly warm personality. However, as the rescuers began to interact with Rosco, they discovered that he was significantly friendlier than they had anticipated.

Rosco readjusted to his new, more comfortable existence at the rescue as his saviors continued their search for a permanent place for him to call home. R.A.D. volunteers did not have to wait long after Rosco was rescued before they came across a post on Facebook that stopped them in their tracks. A lady stated that her dad, Derrick, had been attempting to win the tiny dog’s confidence by giving him food in the garbage where they lived on a daily basis. However, Derrick was absolutely heartbroken to discover that the dog had been taken when he recently revisited the landfill. The people who came to the rescue were aware of what actions they needed to take.
“We immediately made the connection and reached out to Derrick’s family,” the spokeswoman for Bakersfield Strays stated.
When Rosco and Derrick saw one other again, it was obvious that they were meant to be together.
