Fans of the iconic film from 1987 expressed their gratitude to Jennifer Grey for sharing the photograph provided by Lionsgate. One fan reflected, “Just the best memories,” while another said, “It’s a lovely photo.”
“There was enough chemistry between the two of you for it to last a lifetime! “The best movie of all time!!” one Instagram user said. “No on-screen chemistry has ever been this powerful,” said a second person, who concurred with the first.
When Patrick Swayze passed away on May 20, 2009, at the age of 57, from pancreatic cancer, Joel Grey recalled how the actor had performed all of his own stunts. Grey was not shocked to learn that Swayze had battled his cancer prognosis in a heroic and dignified manner. The way she put it was that he was a “real cowboy with a tender heart.”
Despite the fact that they had genuine chemistry together—something that people are still talking about more than three decades later—their relationship was in no way romantic. Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi were living a happy married life, and Grey “was very busy with” Matthew Broderick at the time.
After filming 1984’s “Red Dawn” with Swayze in the Mexican desert for three months, Grey was not enthused about being around his on-set antics and “macho” spirit again when his name was brought up for “Dirty Dancing,” she claimed on “The View” last year. “Dirty Dancing” was released in 1987.

When Grey told the story of how Swayze had a private moment with her before their screen test and apologized for his actions in the past, the host, Whoopi Goldberg, couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Grey’s story had her in stitches. She was aware that he was “working her,” but she gave in nevertheless, adding that she had been fantasizing about having someone who was “the easy chair” as a scene partner.
In April of 2022, Grey gave an interview to PEOPLE in which he said, “The same way Baby and Johnny were not destined to be together… a natural fit, right? And it just wasn’t meant to be between the two of us. Tension was developed as a result of the fact that we needed to be a natural fit for one another.

In retrospect, she wishes she could go back and apologize to her co-star for not appreciating who he was and instead spend her time and energy hoping he could be as she wanted him to be instead of spending her time and energy wishing he could be as she wanted him to be.
Jennifer Grey will reprise her role as Baby Houseman in the upcoming sequel “Dirty Dancing 2.” In the year 2020, she said that the role of Patrick Swayze will not be replaced since they could not recreate the same “magic.”
