She still makes him feel like dancing!
Pop artist Leo Sayer, well known for his 1976 number one song “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing,” wed his longtime girlfriend Donatella Piccinetti on Saturday in their backyard in Australia. The couple had been together for four decades prior to the wedding.
Sayer, who is 74 years old, broke the news on Instagram in the form of a black-and-white snapshot that showed his bride’s hand resting on top of his as they both displayed their new rings.
On Instagram, he reflected on the previous weekend, writing, “This past weekend was truly a dream….” It was a very intimate ceremony in which the couple invited just forty of their closest friends and family members to attend.
According to the description on the newlyweds’ Instagram post, they celebrated their marriage with a reception meal close to their home in Berrima, Australia, and added that they “couldn’t be happier with how the day went.”
A close friend of the couple, Jackie Frank, an executive at a publishing company, recently posted a photograph of the newlyweds on their special day, in which they are both dressed in white.
Sayer and Piccinetti disclosed the year 1984 as the year in which they had their first encounter on the Johnnie and Tiggy Walker Consciously Coupling podcast in the year 2021. The two had been in a relationship for the previous 38 years.
When Sayer entered the establishment to eat, Piccinetti was working as a hostess at an Italian restaurant in London, where she had just relocated from her home country of Italy.
“I could see that he was staring at me and choosing not to eat… I thus approached them and said, “Is everything all right?” And in response, he responded, “Yeah.” “I remember asking, ‘Who are you anyway?'” she said. Then, while people were seated around the bar, they said things like, ‘Oh, do you know who that is?’ I said no. “Oh, that’s Leo Sayer,” the person said. After the fact, I recognized that I was familiar with his music, but I was unaware of who he was.
Sayer allegedly felt an immediate attraction to Piccinetti and made it a point to visit the eatery on a regular basis in order to work up the courage to ask her out on a date. He had no idea that she was going to be away for so long, so he decided to surprise her by filling her office with flowers while she was away.
“It was love at first sight for me,” he added. “When I saw her, I knew.” “She is just this beautiful glowing light in my life,” I said.
Despite the fact that the pair has been together for three decades and has admitted that there have been times when they have drifted apart from one another (“We’ve not had an exactly normal relationship,” Piccinetti remarked), the two of them said in the podcast that there was always something that brought them back to one another.
“This connection was always there,” said Piccinetti. “There was no denying it… It really is rather incredible to think about. It has been quite an experience.”
