On Thursday, a guy from Atlanta who was 16 years old saw a group of smaller children who were in danger at a beach in Florida and immediately took action to assist them. Both he and a family friend who dove into the river to assist the teenager in rescuing them both perished in the process of trying to save them.
at a trip to Pensacola with his family, Bryce Brooks and a group of friends “witnessed four other younger kids who they did not know being pulled by the current,” according to comments made by Bryce’s father, Shivy Brooks, at a press conference. Bryce was one of the four children who survived the incident.
According to WSB-TV, an ABC station in the area, the event took place when they were away for spring break.
The adolescent was joined in the water by two other individuals almost instantly, while the other members of the group fled off in search of their parents.
“Our son Bryce, while being pulled by currents himself literally called for help, but not for himself, he was calling for help for the little kids he was looking out for,” his father added.

Unfortunately, as Bryce was in the water, he “was pulled under,” according to his father.
According to Shivy, when their close family friend Charles Johnson II, whom the family simply referred to as “Uncle Chuck,” stepped in after Bryce, he was also swept under by the current.
He remarked, “Our family is in utter disbelief.” Our community has suffered a terrible loss.
WEAR-TV, an affiliate of ABC, said that officials in Escambia County reported that four persons were pushed over 100 yards by rip currents on that particular day.
According to the news source, the event occurred in a location that did not have any lifeguards present. They also said that at the time of the incident, yellow flags, which signal moderate currents, were flying.
The boy’s parents, who appeared with Bryce in an episode of Netflix’s Instant Dream Home, have said that they are “so proud” of him, despite the fact that nothing can alleviate the anguish they are now experiencing.
“Bryce is a hero in our eyes. “He saved the lives of four kids at the expense of his own,” said the man’s father during the press conference. “He literally saved the lives of four kids.”

We are never going to have the chance to see Bryce grow into the whole man he was going to become. However, we are aware that he behaved like a man in order to rescue these youngsters, and the fact that he did so makes me very proud,” Crystal Brooks, his mother, stated. “It doesn’t take away even a speck of the agony, but it makes me proud of our kid and what he was willing to give up for our country. And I will definitely keep that.”
According to his mother and father, Bryce was a “creative” boy who was also very interested in the fashion industry and music. His father said during the press conference that not only was his son an active participant in the school’s fashion club, but that he was also very bright and had “just made honor roll a week ago.”
The father of the young man recalled their mutual acquaintance Johnson as “a person that looks after everyone.” Johnson was a married man and the father of three children.
“That he would give up his life in a bid to save Bryce’s life; it’s everything I expect and I know regarding that man,” Shivy told NBC station WXIA-TV. “It’s everything I know about that man.”
As of Tuesday, the nonprofit “Get Your Teach On” had successfully earned more than $78,000 via a fundraiser that they had organized in support of the family.
“Bryce’s efforts assisted in the prevention of the loss of numerous lives. The organizers said that they “know the power of this community” but that they “cannot even begin to understand the unimaginable impact this has had on their family, friends, and loved ones.”
In an update that was sent over the weekend, they requested that people remember to pray for the couple’s 6-year-old son Christian “as he learns of the loss of his brother.”
“Our heart breaks for him and continues to break for their entire family,” they added in their letter.
