Caitlin Banks made the decision to accept a job offer in late 2021 that required her to relocate to Calgary, which is located in the province of Alberta in Canada. It was a thrilling new experience for her, but it meant that her puppy, Rollo, who is a rottweiler-shepherd mix, would be separated from his closest buddy, Sadie, who is a husky-shepherd mix. Sadie and Rollo had been best friends since they were puppies.
Rollo and Sadie may not be able to see each other in person, but due to their mothers, they are able to talk on FaceTime once a week and express how much they miss one another.
Rollo and Sadie had been the best of friends since the year 2020, when Banks became a roommate of Sadie’s mother, Kayla McTeer, and moved in with the two of them.
“Because we didn’t know each other at this time, we were both a bit nervous to introduce our dogs,” Banks and McTeer told The Dodo. “We were both a bit nervous to introduce our dogs because of the dogs.” “However, the first meeting turned out to be… rather endearing, to put it mildly.”
It was, to all intents and purposes, love at first sight.
McTeer claims that “Sadie has always been a sassy gal.”
McTeer is quoted as saying, “I fell in love with Sadie’s personality from the very beginning.” “[Sadie is] constantly vocalizing to let me know how she feels β howling or going off on one of her ‘husky talks,’ which I like to think of as her telling me a story.”
Sadie, on the other hand, is more reserved when it comes to socializing with other canines. And McTeer was taken aback when Sadie and Rollo started playing the moment they were introduced to one another.
It’s possible that it had something to do with Rollo’s “goofy and playful” nature, as his mother puts it. Rollo was 11 weeks old when he was adopted by Banks from an animal rescue group in the Canadian province of Alberta. According to Banks, at first, he was a timid puppy, but after he got used to his new surroundings at home, he bloomed.
“Even though he has a tendency to err on the side of caution when meeting new people or being in new places, it doesn’t take him very long to settle into someone’s energy and he quickly becomes their best friend!” Banks said. “He is more of a ‘dog’s dog’ than Sadie is in the sense that he is nice and inviting to all the people and animals he encounters. As soon as he makes the acquaintance of a new canine companion, he will often assume the position of a play bow.
Rollo and Sadie could always be seen playing in the yard of the shared home while they all lived there together. Banks and McTeer always left their doors open so that the dogs could visit each other anytime they want, and Rollo and Sadie played in the yard constantly.
And to our great fortune, Banks and McTeer hit it off almost as quickly. They shared their excitement by saying, “Before we knew it, we were best friends, too!”
It goes without saying that it was a trying time when Caitlin and Rollo decided to move away.
According to Banks, “Rollo is an emotional boy, feeling changes in life a bit more than other dogs may,” which is “hence why his move away from Sadie has been challenging.”
Before the relocation, the former roommates decided that they would make it a point to have a FaceTime date every Thursday evening. Banks and McTeer noted that the fact that they now live in separate places has made things difficult for everyone.
“It’s wonderful because we can fill each other in on our weeks, and Rollo and Sadie get the chance to catch up, too!” they exclaimed. “It’s great because we can fill each other in on our weeks.” We make it a point to ensure that Rollo and Sadie are able to see each other and chat over FaceTime on a regular basis.
In addition, the four of them make it a point to meet up in person at least once per month, which always leads to a great deal of happy wagging of tails.
According to Banks and McTeer, the most important thing that can be learned from Rollo and Sadie’s tale is the profound and enduring relationship that all of us have achieved via what we consider to have been a “kismet” or “serendipitous” encounter. “Neither one of us knew that moving out of our current situations into the house where they met would result in such an unbreakable, undeniable, and meaningful friendship β for both the dogs and the owners!”
