A source informed People Magazine in January 2023 that actor Brad Pitt had placed his large property, which sits on just under two acres, up for sale. It would seem that the actor from “Babylon” is wanting to downsize his living situation, trading in the mansion for a residence that is more humble.
Angelina Jolie, who was formerly married to Brad Pitt, purchased a home in the neighborhood of the Los Feliz estate. Jolie provided the following explanation for her choice in an interview with British Vogue:
I wanted it to be near to their dad, who is just a five-minute drive away, so I chose this location. I could feel a little amount of pressure creeping in. As if I had managed to sneak into the place where Cecil B. DeMille and Charlie Chaplin used to hang out.”
According to the documentation, Pitt purchased the craftsman-style house from horror star Elvira, more widely known as Cassandra Peterson. This transaction took place in 1994. The property could have been purchased for a pitiful amount of money at the time, since it was only worth $1.7 million.
The estate was reportedly built in 1915 and had six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and a total living area of 6,692 square feet, as stated by Architectural Digest. In order to get more usage out of it, Pitt enlarged it by acquiring two additional homes that were next to it.
A tennis court, a skate park, and a swimming pool of world-class caliber were all features of the estate by the year 2023. The property covered 1.9 acres. Photos show that the home features two chimneys made of red brick, a large number of patios, and dark brown siding that has a woodsy pattern.
According to TMZ, not only did the Pitt-Jolie brood reside in the estate up to the year 2016, but it was also the location where the legendary musician Jimi Hendrix penned the lyrics to his song “May This Be Love.” Discuss the rich history that was contained in the home!
During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2004, Pitt raved about his passion for architecture, claiming that it impacts one’s attitude and raises up one’s spirit.
As a result, it shouldn’t come as much of a shock to learn that Pitt has amassed a sizeable collection of big real estate. Among them are a zen-inspired apartment in the Hollywood Hills, a holiday property in Santa Barbara, and a residence in the south of France inside the Chateau Miraval vineyard that is listed for sixty million dollars.
But arguably the most significant was his estate in Los Feliz, which served as his residence for the better part of three decades. Since the mansion was first put up for sale in January 2023, Entertainment Tonight has exclusively revealed that it has now been sold for the price of $39 million, which is consistent with the claims that were made at the time.
“Brad Pitt has sold his home in Los Feliz for close to the asking price of $40 million,” the statement reads. According to the source of the publication, the transaction took place outside of the market.
In August of 2022, it was announced that actor Brad Pitt had acquired a clifftop property in Carmel, California, to his portfolio of real estate. Pitt reportedly made this decision because he wanted “something smaller” in comparison to the mansion he had in Los Feliz.
The Wall Street Journal said that the estate ran for 2.51 acres, which is more than half an acre more than his family house. In actuality, the more recent mansion was not even significantly smaller than the older one.
It turns out that the recent shift Pitt made was inspired by the new Los Angeles mansion tax. This tax would oblige celebrities living on the more wealthy side of Los Angeles to pay a 4% transfer tax for houses worth $5 million and a 5.5% tax for buildings worth more than $10 million.
Yahoo claimed that the money from the levy will be channelled towards the city’s public housing program in an effort to reduce the number of people living on the streets in the City of Stars.
