Remi’s life did not get off to a very good start. The mother and her puppies had been abandoned in the field with the Belgian Malinois mix puppy, who was one year old at the time. She required a little of good fortune as well as a lot of tender loving care.
Fortunately, The Labelle Foundation came to the rescue of the adorable puppies, and in only a few short weeks, Remi found her permanent home with a well-known celebrity.
Taylor Lautner, Remi’s dad, told The Dodo that there were eight puppies and their mother when they were rescued around two weeks after the mother gave birth in a field. “They were saved,” “Despite the fact that the foster caregiver already had a dog of her own, she took in the mother dog and all eight of the pups. We received Remi as soon as we could, at 10 weeks.”
When the “Twilight” star’s fiancĂ©e, Taylor Dome, brought up the possibility of getting a second dog, the couple already had a puppy named Lily.
“There was absolutely no question in my mind,” Lautner remarked. “Tay shared images of [Remi] and her narrative about how she had been abandoned, and I immediately felt that I needed to get her straight away. Since she is such a wonderful dog, this last year has been the finest of our life.
Not only did Remi complete his family, but she also stoked his fire to fight for the rights of all the animals in need of loving homes who are housed in shelters. Now, as a part of this year’s Hill’s Clear The Shelters campaign, which aims to inspire potential pet owners to adopt a four-legged companion who is in need, Lautner is lending his voice to the cause.
Lautner said that there are a plethora of excellent organizations that provide refuge and assistance to those in need. “I advise folks if you’re ready to take that next step to be a pet parent, to go to a local shelter and adopt,” she said. “It’s the best thing you can do for a pet.”
Naturally, both dogs are on “Team Jacob,” but it was Remi who provided something that Lautner did not realize he was missing: a revitalized appreciation for life.
Lautner expressed the hope that he could spend his life more similarly to Remi’s. “You see how appreciative and loving the shelter dogs are,” said the woman. It’s a really unique and important connection. I want to be someone who can help other people in the same way that Remi helps me.
