The moment Lisa Chiarelli’s phone rang with a photo of a dog and an emotional appeal for assistance, her heart sank immediately. Chiarelli, the founder of the dog rescue organization Frankie Lola and Friends, is used to receiving letters about dogs in a variety of predicaments; however, this instance was unique in that the puppy was discovered abandoned in Tijuana, Mexico, and living in a cardboard box.

Chiarelli gave her word that she would help save the puppy without any doubt. She spent the remainder of the night plotting his freedom trip, but when she woke up the next morning, she found out some surprising news.

“The next day, she stated there were more,” Chiarelli said in an interview with The Dodo. “All of a sudden, there wasn’t just one puppy there; there was a whole box full of pups.”

Chiarelli was taken aback when she saw that the puppy she thought was a lone wolf really had company. He was joined by four other littermates, and it was obvious that all of them need assistance. Chiarelli was certain that he would protect the rest of the humble family.

A kind Samaritan sent the package of pups all the way from Mexico to Chiarelli’s rescue in Southern California. As the puppies arrived, Chiarelli was relieved to finally be able to hold them in her arms and ensure that they were safe. But, she saw immediately that they had a long way to go before they could consider themselves fully recovered.

Chiarelli remarked that the pups seemed to be undernourished and quite frail in their appearance. “They were just seven to eight weeks old at the time.”

The veterinary staff at Chiarelli Animal Hospital wasted no time in getting to work to assist the pups in their recovery. In addition to receiving medication around the clock, everyone working at the clinic took turns petting and stroking the pups, and it wasn’t long before they began to show signs of improvement.

According to what Chiarelli claimed, “with love, medication, and faith, they improved so much.” They began to eat like there was no tomorrow, put on a lot of weight, and play a lot more.

Puppies all grew to be double their original size in only three weeks’ time. Soon enough, they were all in good health and were at last prepared to experience the carefree life of puppies.

The pups were adopted out to different families as soon as their physical examinations revealed no signs of illness. Chiarelli has high hopes that the other four puppies will also find loving homes, despite the fact that only one of the puppies has been taken in by a permanent family up to this point.

For the time being, the surviving pups will continue to acquire new skills and develop thanks to the support of their wonderful foster homes. They may be very young survivors, but they are not dwelling on their past at all; rather, they are concentrating on creating brand new and unforgettable experiences for themselves.

And Chiarelli believes that even better things are yet to come in the future.
