It is not difficult to see the rationale behind why a devoted black Lab in New Jersey is being hailed as a hero.

This past week, he went out of his way to be there for a little child, providing his unwavering love and protection at a time when it was needed the most.

The youngster, who was four years old at the time, was last seen walking away from his house in Buena Vista Township, New Jersey, on Wednesday evening, according to the New Jersey State Police. The area is quite forested and presents several risks to a preschooler who is unattended; however, the youngster was not by themselves when they were found.

The little child wandered off and became more disoriented before being reunited with the dog that belonged to his family. The dog had chosen to stay nearby.

Almost an hour later, thank goodness, state policemen and the boy’s mother were able to locate them and bring them back safely.

According to a statement released by the New Jersey State Police, the department is “thankful to announce that owing to the rapid reaction of the troopers and his mother, the scared boy was safely discovered and is in excellent condition.”

After the uploading of video from the rescue on the internet, people were eager to express their gratitude to the dog for his part in ensuring a safe result.

One user said that “this gorgeous dog guarded him and remained by his side throughout the whole ordeal.”

Someone more chimed in and said, “Give this dog an award!”

A third comment read, “Fantastic puppy!”
