When Diego and Dallas were only 9 weeks old, their bodies were discovered abandoned on a corner of a street. They were both in an extreme amount of fear, and they leaned on one another for support and solace throughout the ordeal. They were ultimately taken in by a kind and caring family, but despite the fact that they were no longer in danger, they still refused to separate from one another.

The pair’s mother, Lisa Laufer, said that throughout their whole lives, they had to rely on one another for support and comfort.

During the course of her life, Dallas has developed a strong bond with her older brother Kodi, and the two of them have a lot of fun playing together. While Diego and Kodi were never as close as they are now, he always enjoyed looking on as his siblings interacted and played together. The three lived a beautiful existence together up until the time when Dallas went away, which was a tragic event.

Despite the fact that both dogs were very saddened by the loss of their sister, Diego’s grief was more obvious. He reduced the amount of food he consumed and stopped racing with excitement about his dish of food. Everyone was concerned about him and did their best to show him extra affection, with Kodi leading the charge.

Kodi is able to interact with his family via the use of buttons, and in the weeks after Dallas’s passing, he began hitting the Diego button rather often. His mother was first perplexed since he had never actually used that button before; nonetheless, it wasn’t long before she understood what he was attempting to do.

After pressing the Diego button, Kodi would either hit the ball button or the scritches button next. He would stare at his mother, then glance across to Diego, and finally return to looking at his mother. At a period when Diego was unable to talk for himself, Kodi was making an effort to speak on his behalf.

According to Laufer, “Kodi wasn’t just arbitrarily adding the word ‘Diego’ to his interactions; rather, he was expressing a desire for Diego to enjoy the things that HE (Kodi) liked.”

Since Dallas has left, there is little doubt that Kodi and Diego have grown closer to one another. The brothers are gaining solace and strength from one another via their shared experience of grieving the loss of their sister, and they are going ahead together with Dallas looking over them.

“Now that it has been over a month after Dallas went away, Kodi isn’t speaking for Diego as often, and both dogs appear to have a new routine and life after Dallas,” Laufer said. “With Dallas’ passing, both dogs seem to have a new lease on life.” “It was a gift that Kodi was able to communicate for Diego at this difficult period,” the author says, adding that she is “sure that Diego is being cared after by both humans and by Kodi.”
