The role of the Material Girl is one that Julia Garner is still keen to portray.
Despite Jennifer Garner already being cast in the starring role, Variety reported in January that the film on Madonna’s life that was in development at Universal Pictures was not going further in development at the studio.
Garner, who is 29 years old, shared this information at the Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday. The picture, which was supposed to include Madonna co-writing the script, producing it, and directing it, may still have a chance in the future.
When being questioned by Entertainment Tonight about the likelihood of the film being remade at some point in the future, Jennifer Garner expressed optimism about the film’s prospects.
When asked what she would want her followers to know about the possible movie adaptation of her life, she said, “I don’t want to say too much.”
“I’m going to keep things…” she began, before agreeing with ET’s Denny Directo that, “fingers crossed,” something will emerge of the film about the life story of the renowned pop artist. “I’m going to keep things…”
It has been reported that Madonna, who is now 64 years old, still has plans to produce a film about her life at some point in the future, but for the time being, she wants to concentrate on her recently announced Celebration Tour.
In June, it was reported that the star of Inventing Anna had been given the part of the title character in the next movie. Julia Garner is the frontrunner to portray Madonna in the upcoming biopic, according to a person connected to the Madonna project who spoke to PEOPLE at the time. “The Madonna movie is in active production,” the source said.
After the broadcast of the documentary on her Madame X show on Paramount+, Madonna revealed in an Instagram post that she has since deleted that she was almost finished writing the screenplay. This announcement came a few months earlier.
“Thankful for the support of my lovely children, as well as the popularity of Madame X and the fact that my screenplay is nearly done!” She captioned a sequence of pictures in which she was seen seated in front of a written script.
The post had pictures that revealed pages from the screenplay, including two sequences that seemed to be from significant points in her professional life.
One seemed to be from the year 1979 when Madonna was the drummer for a band named Breakfast Club with Dan and Ed Gilroy, who performed with her on the stage of CBGB in New York City at the time. The second photo appears to be dated 1990, the year when she toured the world in support of her album Blonde Ambition.
Despite the fact that work on the Madonna biography has been put on hold for the time being, Jennifer Garner has had a busy few months. She just finished off this year’s awards season, during which she won a Golden Globe and her third Emmy Award for her performance as Ruth Langmore in Netflix’s Ozark.
“Playing Ruth for the past three years has really been the greatest gift in my life,” she remarked when she won her very first Golden Globe award back in January. “I am very honored to have this opportunity.”
She also acknowledged the other actors that appeared with her in Ozark, including Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, as well as “our great cast and crew who simply became our family and unconditional love all around.”
