Four months after the adoption of their daughter, they were surprised by the “falling from the sky” arrival of their second child via adoption.
On January 23, 2023, Mariska Hargitay, who plays the role of Detective Olivia Benson on the television series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” celebrated her 59th birthday. As the actress of “All-American Girl” has said that she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and three children, it is quite possible that she is making the most of her birthday by enjoying it with the people she cares about the most.
A girl named Amaya Hermann is one of Mariska’s three children, along with two sons named August and Andrew Hermann. She takes great pleasure in working side by side with her husband, Peter Hermann, to bring up their three children. Mariska’s primary gripe is that there is not enough time in the day for her to work, contribute to her nonprofit organization, and be a good mother to her children.
In her Instagram story, Mariska included a picture of a bright bouquet of flowers that she had taken. Even though she never revealed the identity of the person who presented it to her, it is reasonable to assume that Peter was the one who made such a kind gesture.
Mariska and Peter originally met on “Law & Order: SVU.” Mariska had already been working as an actress on the program for some time when Peter appeared in a guest role in one of the episodes in the year 2002. The two had wonderful chemistry, and it didn’t take long before they began spending time together outside of work. They spent some time together as a couple before tying the knot in 2004.
They usually add with a giggle that August thinks it was his idea when Peter and Mariska recount the narrative of how they came to the conclusion that they should adopt a child.
The two individuals realized early on that they wanted to be married and have a family, and they were able to fulfill those goals with the arrival of their first child, August. They already had one son, but after the birth of their first child, they decided that they wanted to have more children. Yet Peter and Mariska have made the decision to pursue adoption rather than having another child of their own.
They began exploring their choices and looked at both domestic and foreign adoption as potential paths for them to take. Mariska and Peter did not give up their hopes and prayers for the ideal new member of their family, and in 2011, they were blessed with the arrival of tiny Amaya Josephine. When she was born, they immediately realized that she was the ideal addition to their family, and Mariska said that “…our prayers were fulfilled.”
The addition of young Amaya brought joy to everyone in the family. Her elder brother August was particularly ecstatic about the arrival of their new baby sister, and he vowed to his parents that he would be the most responsible and kind big brother that anybody could ask for. Nevertheless, not long after Amaya became a part of their tight-knit group, an unexpected twist of fate was sprung on them.
How is it that four months after the adoption, a third child seemingly “fell out of the sky”?

They discussed how August expressed his desire to have a younger sister after he got back from a playdate at a friend’s house after spending time there. In a related development, his parents had already begun to mull the possibility of having more children.
But, not long after Amaya joined their family, August made the suggestion that they add another little child to their already-growing family. The fact that their eldest child wanted another sibling came as a bit of a surprise to Peter and Mariska, but they decided that the idea was a good one and restarted their search. Peter revealed to us:
“August was under the impression that he had contributed to the decision to proceed with the adoption. After that, he yearned for a little son. We said, really? It was a miracle that led to the arrival of our second son, Andrew, who landed in our backyard after falling from the skies.”
The adoption of Andrew came about only four months following the adoption of Amaya. Despite this, the parents were overjoyed when they found out they could adopt the kid, and they seized the chance the moment it was presented to them.
