Sarah Jessica Parker almost single-handedly lit up Manhattan last night when she made her way to the New York City Ballet Fall Fashion Gala dressed in a voluminous and bright pink gown designed by Zac Posen. The gown was created by Zac Posen. Her daring number was difficult to miss; it had enormous puff sleeves reminiscent of the 1980s and a tiered skirt that made twirling in front of the cameras look like an especially enjoyable experience.

But if you can look past the yards and yards of fuchsia fabric, you’ll notice that the shoes are the true focus of the outfit. On her left foot, Parker donned a golden yellow version of the sandal that did not have any embellishments, while on her right foot, she wore a pink slingback sandal with a jeweled clasp. Both styles came from Sarah Jessica Parker’s namesake shoe brand, which was called SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker.

It was straight out of Carrie Bradshaw’s book that we got the idea for the mismatched heels. The onscreen fashionista depicted by Parker adopted the same strategy for a vacation to Los Angeles way back in Season 3 of Sex and the City. Fans were left wondering whether it was a mistake in costume design or an intended styling hack.

In June, some twenty years after Carrie’s puzzling footwear first appeared on our television screens, Parker provided some clarity regarding Carrie’s shoe selection. The actress revealed the “official answer” for the ensemble in a comment she made on an Instagram post from the account @everyoutfitonsatc, which archives all the garments that are worn on the HBO series, and she cited Patricia Field, who was responsible for the costumes on SATC.

She explained, “We had two pairs of scruffy sandals that I assume were by Christian Louboutin.” “Pat and I agreed that we would try one of each. It’s possible that both were so mouthwatering in color and looked to be in harmony with the outfit, but we also adored making one of each just because we could.”

The aforementioned post was also commented on by Field, who stated that she and Sarah Jessica Parker “decided to use one of each because we could not decide which one was best and they’re both wonderful with the dress.” In point of fact, Carrie’s white ruffled asymmetrical dress looked great with the pink and blue heels she wore with it.
