When senior dog Jack came to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society in Virginia, he was frightened and dejected when he first saw the facility. Because he was in such a bad mood, he would sometimes bury his head in the corner of his kennel.

Recently, a dog that is a combination of a German Shepherd and a Labrador Retriever was placed in our care through no fault of his own. According to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, “he is an elderly guy, maybe 12 years old or older, and he is afraid.” “Over time, the vast majority of dogs experience a minor adjustment, and although they would still prefer to be somewhere else, they eventually learn to trust the staff and volunteers and open up to them. When we enter Jack’s kennel, he hides his face in the corner, and we have to pick him up and carry him outdoors because he is so forlorn and terrified.

In addition to that, they discovered that when he is outdoors, he seems to come back to life a little bit more.

After being in the shelter for a month, the members of Susie’s Senior Dogs came to the conclusion that they needed to find him a permanent home. They uploaded a message on Facebook which said that despite Jack’s dread of the shelter, he has never seen any abusive behavior against the workers or volunteers there.

Susie’s Senior Dogs was fortunate enough to get a large number of queries about Jack, who is positive for heartworm disease, suffers from terrible hips, and has pre-renal kidney illness. Happily, a wonderful young girl came right to the shelter to see Jack together with her other dog friend. Jack was excited to meet them both.
