Demi Lovato is being transparent about her past experiences with substances and beverages when she was still a teenager.

The singer best known for her hit single “Confident,” who is in the midst of promoting her forthcoming eighth studio album Holy Fvck, reflected on her initial experiences with illegal substances in an edition of the Call Her Daddy podcast that aired on Wednesday.

She shared with the presenter, Alexandra Cooper, that she began experimenting for the first time when she was between the ages of 12 and 13. “After I was in a vehicle accident, the doctors recommended that I take opiates. Because I was already drinking at that time, my mother did not anticipate having to put away the opioids that her daughter, who was then 13 years old, had obtained. I had been the victim of bullying, and I was seeking a way out.”

Lovato, who is now 30 years old, said that once their mother discovered how many drugs her children were taking, she removed them and “locked them up.”

Additionally, the former star of Disney Channel said that throughout their teenage years she “drank a lot.” They went on to say that the first time they drank was when they were “alone,” and that she had stolen beer from her stepfather’s refrigerator. She said that the event “should have been a massive red flag.”

Lovato has since admitted that she has experimented with cocaine, saying, “At 17, it was the first time I tried coke and, like, loved it too much and then kind of bled into me going to treatment right after I turned 18.” Lovato went on to say that she received treatment for her addiction to cocaine shortly after turning 18.

They went on to say that when she did at last get assistance, her team was “very supportive” of her since it had been “a long time coming.”

Lovato also discussed her relationship in depth in the episode of Call Her Daddy. They did not divulge the identity of their partner on the show; nevertheless, earlier this week they celebrated her 30th birthday in Los Angeles with her lover Jute.

They said that things are “doing pretty well” in the relationship.

Lovato also discussed the qualities that she seeks in a romantic companion, adding, “I just can’t help but laugh. I’ve been with some very hot and attractive individuals in the past… I still think the person I’m seeing is the hottest and sexiest human being alive, and I am completely enamored with them. However, the thing that must be emphasized the most is the passage of time. We all eventually get older, our appearance changes, and other things like that; thus, you need to locate someone who truly understands you. But most significantly, it makes me smile and laugh out loud.”

The young couple was seen on camera in New York City last week walking hand in hand as they made their first public appearance together for the first time.
