Poor driving isn’t always the source of serious road rage; sometimes it’s only a little irritation. There are situations when poor driving is an indication that the person behind the wheel needs assistance.
That is exactly what happened in Oceola Township, Michigan, when a driver came to a complete stop with his truck at a stop sign, and he never moved his vehicle again. A line of irate vehicles immediately formed and began blowing their horns and beeping their horns at a motorist who seemed to be driving while preoccupied and without responsibility. However, as seconds passed, 16-year-old Max Greenwood began to fear that something could be wrong.
Greenwood said that while he was stopped, “a few people were honking and a few of others passed him because they were irritated that he was stopped.” “I didn’t want to simply honk and act like a scumbag like that,” he said.

Max Greenwood got out of his vehicle and went toward the truck, where he stood ready to provide assistance in any manner that he could.
“At first, I assumed he was broken down,” he stated.
Greenwood eventually made his way to the window on the driver’s side of the vehicle, where he saw a guy who seemed to be quite confused. He had no idea who he was or where he was, and he couldn’t even recall his own name. Greenwood instructed the guy to pull over and then phoned the police as soon as he did so.
When questioned why he was so ready to assist the guy, Greenwood said, “It’s a human,” in response to the question. If I were in his shoes, I would hope that someone would assist me in getting out of it.
The guy was transported to a hospital with the assistance of the emergency medical services in order to obtain medical care. Greenwood found out much later that the guy may have been suffering from low blood sugar when he was found.
Joni Harvey, manager of 911 operations, characterized Greenwood’s actions as “strange” for a teenager. “I think it’s amazing that a young individual was attempting to be a good Samaritan,” she remarked.
Mary Pudelko, Greenwood’s mother, was equally taken aback and astonished by everything that had happened.
“You preach to your kids that you need to do the right thing, and when he did I was incredibly pleased,” she added. “You teach to your kids that you need to do the right thing.” “In this day and age, when a lot of youngsters don’t care about anybody except themselves, he stood up and it made a difference,” said the teacher. “He made a difference.”
“I always try to make an effort to assist individuals on the side of the road,” Greenwood said. “It’s just the right thing to do.”
In this day and age of crowded cities and massive traffic congestion, it is imperative that we all keep Max Greenwood’s example in mind, even if it may seem to be a very little act of compassion. People like Greenwood have the ability to help prevent catastrophes from occurring and save lives that may otherwise be lost as a result of impaired driving.
