Despite the fact that they may not be life mates, dogs are the best companions and the link that K9s form with their fellow buddies is unique and eternal. When the time comes for a K9 officer to retire, the stress of the situation often becomes too much for both the dog and his officer to handle properly.

In an utterly sweet scene, one cop honors his faithful buddy with a radio tribute on his last day on the job, which happens to be his birthday. The K9 dog was completely unaware that his retirement day had arrived, so he simply jumped into the patrol car as he would have done on any other day. His handler, on the other hand, decided to offer him a little moment of fame. He was completely deserving of this honor! The emotional event was captured on film by the patrol car’s surveillance camera!

Faust, an exceptionally well-trained German Shepherd, worked as a K9 officer with the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Police Department for over eight years. Faust and his handler Senior Special Agent Bryan Schaffer were constantly in danger throughout their assignments because they were members of the Explosives Detection and Patrol team. Despite this, the two had always shown a great deal of attention and love in their work, particularly the four-legged cop, who had received numerous accolades along the road! But everything comes to an end, and Faust’s time as a K9 was no different. As a result, when the time came for him to retire, his companion paid tribute.

However, on his last day as an officer, instead of dispatching him and officer Schaffer to a task, the caller gave a heartfelt address to the faithful dog in honor of his service.

“Faust has just completed his final shift as a bomb detection and police service K-9 after eight years and one day on the job, and he is now officially retired,” he stated. “Thank you, Faust, for your assistance!”

What a touching gesture for such a dedicated cop. Watch the amazing moment in the video below:
