On the very first day of his role as a co-anchor for Today, Craig Melvin had the most wonderful surprise in waiting for him.
As his wife Lindsay Czarniak and his two children, son Delano, 10, and daughter Sybil, 8, stepped out on set to surprise him for his first day as an official Today co-anchor, the 45-year-old father of two became overcome with emotion. It was a moment that he will never forget. It was his brother Ryan, together with his parents, Lawrence and Betty Jo, who came next in the line of succession for his family.
“When I left this morning, you were all in bed!” As Melvin put it.
“We faked it,” Czarniak revealed while chuckling.
Both Delano and his father were dressed in navy suits, and they were sitting next to one other. Melvin told Delano, “Oh, you got a microphone, buddy,” and Delano answered by saying, “I’m professional!”

Then, when Czarniak said that the eight-year-old had written down some things about her father that she felt the audience may be interested in knowing, Sybil took out a note that she had written about her father during the conversation.
My father enjoys playing with me very much. In addition to watching television programs with me, he enjoys having tickle battles,” she read.
Melvin posted a cute picture of his family of four wearing identical green and white Christmas pajamas on Instagram back in December. The images were taken over the holiday season. In the cute photograph, the four of them were smiling, and the pleased father took a moment to reflect on the Christmas season in the text that attached to the picture.
He wrote, “Merry Christmas from the Melvins,” and he meant it. My hope is that today is a day that is full of love, joy, and memories for you. During this Christmas season, a particular prayer is said for people who are experiencing feelings of isolation or loss.
