In a matter of minutes, Luigi Mangione’s own social media following skyrocketed by the thousands, as people on the internet began referring to him as “hot” and a “hero.”
Luigi Mangione has been identified as the person responsible for the loss of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare Organization.
In addition to the accusation of murder in the second degree, he is also being charged with possession of a loaded firearm (two counts), possession of a forged document, and illegal possession of a weapon in the state of New York.
The arrest of Liugi Mangioni, who was held on firearm charges and designated as a “strong person of interest” in connection with the loss of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has taken over social media outlets. Mangioni was arrested on the allegations of murdering Thompson.
Mangioni, who is 26 years old, was taken into custody by the Altoona Police Department on Monday inside a McDonald’s restaurant in Pennsylvania on charges related to firearms. Despite the fact that he was reportedly carrying a pistol and a silencer, which are “both consistent with the weapon used in the murder,” according to New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, he has not yet been prosecuted in connection with the murder of Thompson.

He was also apparently carrying a bogus New Jersey identification card that “matched the ID our suspect used to check into his New York City hostel before the shooting,” according to Tisch. Additionally, he was claimed to have “a hand-written document that speaks to both his motivation and mindset,” what Tisch referred to as a manifesto. According to CNN, which cites police authorities who purportedly viewed the paper, he wrote, “These parasites had it coming” and “I do apologize for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done.” He also said that he acted alone and that he was willing to pay for his own actions.
Additionally, New York Mayor Eric Adams said on Monday that Mangioni is a person who fits the description of the person they have been searching for. Adams stated that Mangioni was “in possession of several items that we believe will connect him to this incident.”
Those involved in the investigation were able to discover Mangioni’s social media profiles in a short amount of time after he was formally identified as the person of interest. Before his name became well known, Mangioni had less than one thousand followers on Instagram; as of the time this article was published, he had more than nineteen thousand followers. On X, he went from having a number that was almost as low to having more than 43 thousand in a span of less than an hour. At the time of 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time, both accounts, in addition to his Facebook page, are still operational.
The most recent post he made on Instagram, which was in 2021, has been filled with people expressing their admiration for him. These people have referred to him as a “legend,” “My Goat,” “King,” and “Hero,” and they have also commented on the fact that they have put up money for bail.
Many people started uploading a shirtless picture of him that was included in his banner image on the social media site, and they complimented him by saying that he was “hot.” His name also became the most popular subject on X.
“Luigi Mangione probably did it for political reasons and to force everyone see this photo of him,” wrote one user, while another commented, “your honor, my client luigi mangione is innocent. he was just demonstrating the true power of having “looks that could kill.” the only thing criminal is his bone structure.”
“In this house, Luigi Mangione is a hero, end of story,” wrote another user, while another popular post read, “The manhunt has now ended with investigators declaring ‘too hot to convict.'”
Yet another exclaimed, “FREE LUIGI MANGIONE IMMEDIATELY.”
In addition, the names of Ryan Murphy and Dave Franco started to become popular. Many people remarked on how much Franco resembles Mangione, while others made jokes about how Murphy, the guy who is responsible for Monsters and True Crime Story, was “running towards his typewriter.”
Despite the fact that many people have denounced the shooting, there are also many people on social media who have responded to the assassination by hailing the gunman a hero, while at the same time expressing their own grievances over health care and insurance. The replies once again emphasize the split that exists online in the aftermath of Thompson having been murdered.
Over the course of the weekend, Saturday Night Live also addressed the many individuals who have been referring to the suspect as “hot” after the release of photographs of the unnamed suspect by the police.
