September 2022 marked the conclusion of the duo’s performance together, which took place at the Minnesota State Fair.
It was Brian Kelley’s “adamant” desire to pursue a solo career that finally led to the dissolution of the chart-topping trio Florida Georgia Line, according to Tyler Hubbard, who was a former bandmate of Brian Kelley’s in Florida Georgia Line.
During the episode of the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast that was broadcast this week by Barstool Sports, the “5 Foot 9” singer was questioned about the reasons for the sudden termination of FGL in the year 2022. Fans were taken aback when the trio said that they had just watched their last performance as a country duet, which took place in September of 2022. The announcement was made at the Minnesota State Fair.
In my opinion, it came as a complete surprise. But BK approached me and said, “Man, I’m really feeling like I want to do a solo thing.” I was surprised to hear that. ‘Really?’ I’m thinking to myself. We were in the process of terminating our first agreement. When Hubbard reflected on the situation, he said, “We were kind of in a sweet spot that we had worked for ten years to acquire.” I’m thinking to myself, ‘Why don’t we just ride this thing out for like five more years, ten more years, and then we can do the solo thing or whatever it is that we want to do?’ Once again, however, I wanted to show my support for him. Indeed, he was emphatic, as if to say, “No, now is my time.” I really need to take care of myself by doing this. And my response is, “Well, hey, whatever it is that you need to do, bro.” For example, what is it that you desire from me? “All I want is support,” he says after a moment.
According to Hubbard, he made that promise with the expectation that they would get back together at some point in the future.
To put it simply, we’ve been on an amazing journey. It is going to be placed at this location. You never know what may happen if we go ahead and do it and smash it. Additionally, Hubbard stated, “Perhaps it will bring us back together, and we can have a reunion tour or whatever else we want to do.” “But he definitely initiated the whole thing from the beginning and it kind of — when I say caught me off guard, it wasn’t like we had never mentioned it before — it was just one of those things where I didn’t think it was going to happen then, you know what I mean?”

In an interview with ET, which took place in January 2023, Hubbard said that the separation came “sort of as a surprise” to everyone involved.
“This was a career shift, and a big transition for me — going from being in a duo, Florida Georgia Line, to now stepping into this new season of being a solo artist,” Hubbard told ET at the time of publication. It has been a really amazing experience to see and experience what it looks and feels like. On the other hand, it was very much a surprise, and it was something that BK approached me with the intention of doing. And it took me a while to kind of comprehend what you just said. ‘Well, I’ll just be a composer, and I won’t do the artist thing,’ I thought to myself at that moment.
But Hubbard didn’t stay out of the spotlight for very long; not long after that, he released his first solo album, which was simply named after himself. Prior to beginning a solo career, there was persistent suspicion that FGL, the band responsible for successes such as the banger “Cruise” in 2012 and the ballad “H.O.L.Y.” in 2016, was about to disband. As a result, the pair made several assurances that this would not occur, but it did not come to pass.
Fans are guessing that one specific phrase in Kelley’s new country hit, “Kiss My Boots,” is a jab at Hubbard. This speculation comes as a result of the passage of time. In the musical composition, Kelley sings, “I’m crankin’ Hank, drinkin’ Jack, airin’ out the past / Want the world to know that you did me wrong / I don’t know how you act sweet, after how you did me / Here’s a middle finger to you through a song.”
Following that, Kelley is shown in the music video seeking a snake that is hiding in the grass. When the video comes to a close, Kelley is seen chopping an apple with a knife. He is also shown wearing a belt buckle that says “Florida,” which is the state that Kelley has represented as one half of the duo that was once quite popular. Georgia is represented by Hubbard.
According to The Tennessean, the Florida Georgia Line-themed pub in Nashville, which was known as FGL House, shut down on Monday earlier this week. Consequently, the closure will now make it possible for country music sensation Lainey Wilson to launch her very own establishment, which will be known as Lainey Wilson’s Bell Bottoms Up. The venue will be three stories tall and 27,000 square feet in size.
