After the passing of her siblings Aaron, Leslie, and Bobbi Jean, Angel said that she and her late brother’s team are working together to make a postmortem album that will include Aaron’s previously unheard songs. Angel also disclosed that she has spoken up about the “generational dysfunction” that exists within her family.
Angel Carter, who is Aaron Carter’s twin sister, is speaking up about the tragic outcomes of the losses of three of her brothers.
Angel, who is 36 years old, discussed the reasons why she feels that her siblings, Leslie, Aaron, and Bobbi Jean, all passed away at such a young age and that their losses were all tied to drug use in an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings.
At the age of 25, Leslie went tragically as a result of an overdose in January of 2012. Aaron’s body was discovered in November 2022, when he was 34 years old, having drowned in his bathtub. Alprazolam (Xanax) and difluoroethane were the two substances that contributed to his losses h by drowning. In the meanwhile, Bobbi Jean passed away in December 2023 at the age of 41 as a result of an overdose caused by drugs, more especially drunkenness brought on by the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
“There were five siblings, three are gone through substance abuse, drug abuse, mental health … why do you think this happened in your family and to your family?” King inquired of Angel.
When I was growing up, there was a period of time when my family and I were a really close-knit unit. However, there is a generational dysfunction problem that is associated with this situation. There was a great deal of affection,” Angel explained. On the other hand, there was a great deal of disorder going on in the meanwhile. It’s only one battle. My mother and father were always arguing with each other. Simply speaking, dysfunction in the household. There are no limits. There is no stability. I have no one to speak to. On the other hand, I had the impression that I would be unable to rely on my parents in the event that I was experiencing a problem.
Angel’s response to the question of whether or not she felt that the “fame” of the family, which includes Aaron’s singing career and Nick’s membership in the Backstreet Boys, was a contributing factor to the “dysfunction” of the family was, “I do.” To tell you the truth, I believe that altered everything.
When I was between the ages of four and five, Nick was already a member of the Backstreet Boys. Therefore, it had been a very long period,” she remembered. When we were a family, we were in a financial bind. Upstate New York was where we started off. My folks were living in poverty. They had never seen anything even somewhat like to this before. The dynamic was simply altered as a result of the fact that money became the driving factor once it began to come in.

Angel said that she made the decision to tell the tale of her family, especially the story of her twin brother, in the hopes that it may “help” others who can “learn” from their particular narrative.
Following years of dealing with addiction and mental health, King questioned Angel about whether or not she felt Aaron was “turning things around” before to his loss.
“There was a time for many years where I always had hope,” Angel said in his speech. “But in the past few years of Aaron’s life, I just was waiting for him to snap out of it, and sadly, he never did.”
“I did lose hope,” she said on the spot.
In addition to stating that “children’s mental health is so important,” Angel emphasized that she wants to “create a world where mental health is a vital part of every child’s upbringing,” which is the way that she is bringing up her daughter.
“I’m creating a world where there’s structure, there’s discipline, there’s innocence,” according to her statement to King. “Children need to have their innocence.”
Adding, “And Aaron did not,” she said. When he was still a very small child, he was already working like an adult. “All he wanted was to be at home,” he said.
Additionally, when Angel was speaking with King, she disclosed that she and the team that her late brother had been working with are planning to release a posthumous album that would include Aaron’s songs. “Recovery” is the name of the album that will be released on May 24th, and the first single with the same name will be released on Friday.
For the benefit of The Kids Mental Health Foundation, the proceeds from the record will be donated.
