The previous week, a pregnant special education teacher in New York passed away after falling at her place of employment.

It was stated by USA Today that Courtney Fannon, who is 29 years old, was discovered unconscious at school on Friday.

Matt Smith, a friend of her husband’s, stated in a GoFundMe page for the family that she passed out after sending a message to her husband as she was drawing to a close on her workday. Her daughter and she were both brought to the hospital, but the doctors were unable to rescue either of them, according to the memorial. In the evening, they passed away.

“The world lost 2 beautiful souls, Courtney Fannon and Hadley Jaye Fannon, long before any of us were ready to live in a world without them,” Smith said in his article.

The superintendent of the school system issued a statement in which he acknowledged the loss of the teacher at Kendall Elementary School and described the loss as “unexpected.”

“Courtney was a special education teacher who served her students with passion and joy each day,” according to the official statement. “When she wasn’t in her classroom sharing her love and gift for teaching with her students, she could be found walking our halls with a smile and a friendly hello.”

PEOPLE reached out to the school system on Thursday, and the district responded by saying that it had no additional comment. It is not immediately obvious what more information there are about what took place.

According to the GoFundMe effort, Courtney and her husband Kurtis tied the knot in August of 2022, and they were expecting their first child in just four weeks.

“In the wake of this devastating news, Kurtis was left to not only manage final arrangements for Courtney and Hadley, but he is living mine, and many others, worst nightmare of having to return to a home, filled with baby toys, bottles, furniture and a finished nursery, that will no longer be filled with the cooing sounds and shuffling of a newborn,” according to the text message.

Family,’ a Tragic Event According to Smith, Courtney was a “loving” lady who “always placed her students ahead of herself, ultimately changing the lives of her students and caregivers, always for the positive.” Smith recalled Courtney as having shown her affection for her students.

“As we mourn, we also ask that you hold your loved ones just a little tighter over the next few days, you never know if you will have a tomorrow with them,” Smith concluded his statement.

By Thursday afternoon, the GoFundMe campaign had already garnered more than sixty thousand dollars.
