Al Roker is a proud new grandpa for the first time! The eldest daughter of the 68-year-old weatherman, Courtney Roker Laga, has given birth to her first child, Roker’s coworkers on the Today program revealed on Tuesday’s episode.
“Our very own Al Roker has joined the ranks of the grandparents. “Yesterday, Al’s daughter Courtney and her husband Wes became parents to a baby girl,” said Craig Melvin, before announcing that the child’s name is Sky Clara Laga. Courtney is Al’s daughter and Wes is Courtney’s husband.
Al reports that everyone is in good shape. Melvin went on to say of Roker that “family couldn’t be happier,” and that Roker’s granddaughter will refer to him as “Pop-Pop.”
After finding out that Kathie Lee Gifford’s daughter, Cassidy, had just given birth to the former Today show host’s second grandchild, the ecstatic grandpa seemed to have divulged the information early. “Right behind you, KLG,” the voice said. He replied on the post that was posted over the weekend, saying that “ours is due tomorrow.”
Courtney made the happy revelation to her father, her mother, who is also Al’s ex-wife, Alice Bell, and her stepmother, Deborah Roberts, back in March that she was expecting her first child.
At the time, she shared on Instagram a cute video montage of herself and her husband, Wesley Laga, displaying their baby’s first sonogram and ultrasound. The post was captioned, “First Sonogram and Ultrasound.”
The video, which included a version of Mariah Carey’s famous song “Always Be My Baby” performed by Brent Morgan, was captioned by the 36-year-old with the phrase “A new adventure is about to begin.”
