One evening, while Tyson Hood was perusing Facebook, he came across a post about a little cat who had been trapped in a storm drain. The article described how the kitten had been rescued. The little kitten was stuck in a place where no one could reach him, and for the last four days, he had been crying out for assistance. The hood is the lieutenant of community risk reduction at his local fire department. He also has a large amount of compassion for animals, so as soon as he saw the post, he instantly wrote a message to the person who made it, asking if he could assist in any way.
According to information provided by Hood to The Dodo, “I’m a bit of a sucker for animals in trouble and wrote her a private message saying that I worked for the local fire department in a situation where I may be able to assist.” “The next day, I awoke to the sound of a mail notification pinging, and we immediately got to work.”

Since Hood did not have a lot of experience with cats, he asked his girlfriend for guidance on the matter. She told him that the kitten would probably be terrified of him, which would make the rescue a little bit more difficult, and she was correct. The rescue was a little bit more difficult. It took nearly an hour and a half to eventually get the little guy out of the storm drain, and it was clear that he was both frightened and puzzled the whole time.
“After moving the grate out of the way, Stephanie brought some tuna, and we arranged it across from the tunnel so that he would have to entirely emerge from the tunnel to eat. He realized quickly that it was a “trap” and refused to leave the tunnel if there was even a remote possibility that he might see me, but he trusted Stephanie enough to… [When] Stephanie could see that he had completely left the tube to eat the tuna, [she] gave me a signal. Essentially, all I had to do was block the entrance with the net before he could come back and rush in. It came dangerously close, but in the end, all he did was go headfirst into the net, and I was able to pull him out.

The kitten had some initial anxiety, but once he understood that he was truly free and that the people around him were safe, he started to relax. It didn’t take him long to discover that his savior was the perfect person for him, and he quickly fell in love with him.
“As soon as he was out of the sewer and in a secure space, he was an amazing lover.” “It immediately jumped up onto my shoulders and started nuzzling and purring as loudly as I’ve ever heard a cat purr so quickly. It was a nice compliment, but as you can probably understand, he smelt dreadful. When I initially phoned my girlfriend Cheryl for some guidance, she told me, before we hung up the phone, “This is how you acquire a cat — you make sure you take the cat home.” (That was her advice before we picked up the phone.) I laughed and told her that it wasn’t going to happen, that I wasn’t looking for a partner at the time, but after that stinky little monster kissed all over me, I kind of fell for him.

Hood had no problem with the fact that Stephanie had already made preparations to adopt the cat as soon as he was let free. He assured her that he would be pleased to adopt the youngster if circumstances were to change, and a few days later, he received a call informing him of this development. The arrangement was not going to work out, and Hood was going to have to take over as the legal guardian of the little child. This had nothing to do with either Stephanie or the cat.
Hood thought it would be appropriate to call the kitten Walnut given that it had been discovered on Walnut Street. It has been some time since he moved into his new place, but his new father is overjoyed with the way everything has turned out.
Hood said, “I completely think he must have had some type of emotional imprint of good times snuggling on my shoulders since that’s the only place he wants to be if I’m sitting still.” “I believe he must have had some sort of emotional impression of good times cuddling on my shoulders.” “He headbutts like a rhinoceros and purrs like a chainsaw, yet for some reason, he insists on lying sprawled over my neck,” she said. “He purrs like a chainsaw.” Every time his food dish is full, he pulls me over to it and wants me to stand watch over it. This may be my everlasting penance for capturing him with a large pool net when he was eating in his sewer home. Yet, I get the impression that we are on the same page, and that when our lives collided, we both enjoyed ourselves quite a bit.
Walnut has known from the moment he saved him that Hood was going to be his father, and the two are now set to spend the rest of their lives as the closest of friends.
