On September 13, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office in Florida reported that two boys, aged 12 and 13, were involved in a break-in at Friendship Elementary School in Deltona. Authorities say the pair initially entered the school during daytime hours and later returned at night.
Once inside, the boys allegedly caused extensive damage, throwing books across the library, overturning furniture, and spray-painting graffiti on doors. Investigators say the situation worsened when they came back again later to see the destruction, triggering a fire alarm during the process. When deputies arrived, they found the school’s media center severely damaged and in disarray.
Police shared on social media that they responded to a fire alarm and discovered a shattered glass door and significant vandalism inside the library. Body camera footage from officers at the scene also documented the aftermath.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office released images showing the extent of the destruction, with books scattered everywhere, broken furniture, and damaged property. Surveillance footage also captured two masked suspects entering the library, one of them wearing a Monster Energy cap.

Most notably, both of their mothers contacted law enforcement after recognizing their children, helping lead to their identification and confession. Officials said the boys admitted to the break-in and that the damage to the school’s media center amounted to at least $50,000.
