In 2020, 19-year-old Amanda LaCount took the stage on *America’s Got Talent* determined to show that passion, confidence, and talent matter more than fitting a particular image. Throughout her life, Amanda had faced criticism from people who believed she didn’t have the “right” body type to pursue a professional career in dance.
She answered those critics with an energetic performance of Todrick Hall’s “Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels.” With her bold personality, confidence, and powerful dance moves, Amanda quickly captivated the audience and impressed several of the judges.
When Heidi Klum pressed her buzzer, the audience responded with a strong reaction. Simon Cowell, however, defended Amanda and expressed his belief that she deserved an opportunity to continue. Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel also voted yes, giving Amanda the chance to advance to the next round.
