Matt Damon recently enjoyed what he jokingly called a “dream date” — with his wife’s permission — during a visit to the Eastwood Ranch Foundation animal rescue in Agoura Hills, California.

The 55-year-old actor spent time at the shelter interacting with several dogs in need of homes, including Betsy, a pit bull who has been waiting for adoption for nearly two years. In a video shared by the rescue on Instagram, Damon introduced her as his “date” and explained that she had been at the facility the longest and deserved a permanent family rather than a shelter stay.

He added humorously that it was also his “first date” in 23 years that his wife, Luciana Barroso, had allowed, before emphasizing the more serious reason for his visit: helping raise awareness for long-term shelter dogs like Betsy, who need loving homes.

The Eastwood Ranch Foundation, a nonprofit rescue organization, highlighted Betsy as a friendly, toy-loving pit bull who has spent over 1.5 years waiting for adoption. During his visit, Damon also met other adoptable dogs, including Jojo, a playful pup; Piper, a deaf and blind dog described as very affectionate; and Duke, a toy-obsessed Doberman.

Eastwood Ranch Foundation announced that it would hold a free community adoption event on June 6 as part of California’s statewide “Adopt-A-Pet Day,” aimed at helping overcrowded shelters place more animals into homes.

Founder Alison Eastwood noted that shelters across California are facing serious overcrowding, with many healthy animals struggling to find adopters. She encouraged the public to visit adoption events and consider giving shelter pets a chance at a permanent home, emphasizing that many animals are simply waiting for someone to choose them.

More details about Betsy, adoption procedures, and the event are available through the organization’s official channels.
