Two 22-year-old identical twin brothers tragically lost their lives after coming into contact with power lines in Italy.
Late in the evening on Tuesday, April 21, Francesco and Giacomo Fierloni were electrocuted by a 20,000-volt current while trying to recover a decoy bird from medium-voltage power lines in a wooded area near Magione, according to local reports.
The brothers had been training pigeon retrievers for the upcoming hunting season when one of the birds became stuck on a power line about 10 meters high. While attempting to retrieve it, one of the twins used a carbon-fiber pole and accidentally touched the live wires, resulting in immediate death. His brother rushed to assist him but was also electrocuted.
Their father, brother, and uncle later discovered both men lying in the same location.
Emergency crews faced difficulty reaching the remote site, and by the time they arrived, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
Magione’s mayor, Massimo Lagetti, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram expressing grief over the loss. He described the brothers as kind and admirable individuals, noting that he knew them personally and regarded them as “golden boys.”
He also extended condolences on behalf of the city council to their parents, Roberta and Giorgio, as well as to their entire family. Additionally, he conveyed sympathies from regional officials who reached out to express their support.
A funeral service for the twins took place on Friday, April 24, at the Church of San Giovanni Battista in Magione.
Authorities, including the Carabinieri, have launched an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, PEOPLE has contacted local emergency services and police for further comment.
