Patrick Muldoon, known for his roles in Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, has passed away unexpectedly at 57.
The actor died on Sunday, April 19, his manager confirmed to Variety. According to Deadline, the cause of death was a heart attack.
A representative for Muldoon has been contacted for further comment.
Actor Jake Getman honored him on Instagram, posting a throwback photo from a red carpet event. “RIP Patrick Muldoon,” he wrote. “I worked with him when I was 8 on Little Dead Rotting Hood—he was a great guy who always kept things light. #gonetoosoon.”
Just two days before his passing, Muldoon shared excitement about an upcoming project on Instagram. He posted about the film KOCKROACH, directed by Matt Ross and starring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, Zazie Beetz, and Alec Baldwin, noting that filming was underway in Australia. He also included the hashtag “#producer.”
Born in San Pedro, California, Muldoon gained recognition for his role as Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives, appearing from 1992 to 1995 and returning to the show in 2011 after a long break.
Following his initial departure, he portrayed antagonist Richard Hart on Melrose Place for three seasons. His early career also included appearances on Saved by the Bell, and he later played Zander Barcalow in the 1997 cult film Starship Troopers alongside Denise Richards and others.
His most recent film, the thriller Dirty Hands, is scheduled for release later this month and features Denise Richards and Michael Bleach.
In addition to acting, Muldoon pursued music, releasing songs like “I Believe” and “Gray Again.” The latter’s music video featured his former partner Denise Richards and was showcased on her reality series Denise Richards and Her Wild Things.
He is survived by his partner Miriam Rothbart, his parents Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr., his sister Shana and brother-in-law Ahmet Zappa, and his niece and nephew, Halo and Arrow Zappa.
