A woman from Arizona who disappeared at the age of 13 has been found alive more than 30 years later, officials have confirmed.
Christina Maria Plante, now in her mid-40s, went missing on May 15, 1994, after leaving her home in Payson to visit a nearby stable where her horse was kept, according to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office.
At the time, authorities considered her disappearance suspicious and classified it as a potential endangerment case. Despite extensive search efforts involving law enforcement and volunteers, along with numerous interviews, investigators were unable to uncover any solid leads.
Her information was entered into national missing persons databases, but the case eventually went cold.
On Wednesday, April 1, the sheriff’s office announced that the case had finally been resolved, revealing that Plante had been located alive after 32 years. Officials stated that recent advances in investigative technology and methods played a key role in solving the case.
Her identity has now been confirmed, and she is no longer listed as a missing person.
While authorities did not provide further details, they emphasized the importance of cold case investigations in delivering long-awaited answers to families and communities.
After acknowledging the efforts of everyone involved in the search, officials also stated that they would respect Plante’s wishes to remain out of the public eye. No additional information will be released to protect her privacy and well-being.
The sheriff’s office added that they remain dedicated to solving other unresolved cases and encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
