A small moment of compassion has turned into something life-changing for a 78-year-old DoorDash driver after his story spread online and captured widespread attention.

The situation began when Brittany Smith from Manchester, Tennessee noticed that her daughter’s father had once again ordered Starbucks for their child. Initially, she was frustrated, as they usually treat it as a reward and this was the third order that week.

However, when Brittany checked her Ring doorbell footage, her reaction shifted. She saw an elderly man slowly making his way up the stairs to deliver the drink. Moved by the sight, she realized how difficult the task was for him.

She later explained that her daughter’s father is a quadriplegic, which is why he often orders deliveries, as he cannot physically go out himself.

Wanting to help, Brittany tried to increase the driver’s tip, but it couldn’t be adjusted through the app. Instead, she shared a short video of the man—named Richard—on social media.

The clip quickly went viral. Soon after, someone recognized Richard as a regular delivery driver and shared more information about him. Brittany tracked him down, visited his home, and personally gave him a $200 tip.

Before accepting it, Richard made sure Brittany was comfortable giving such a generous amount.

During their conversation, he explained that he started working for DoorDash after his wife lost her job. The couple has been struggling to cover the high cost of her medication, leaving them with little money after basic expenses.

After learning his story, Brittany created a GoFundMe campaign titled “Give Richard a chance to rest again.” The response was overwhelming, with donations pouring in from people who wanted to help.

The fundraiser has now raised over $930,000 and continues to grow.

According to Brittany, Richard has been so amazed by the support that he hasn’t slept for two days, constantly checking the donations.

She added that meeting him in person made an even bigger impression, describing him as incredibly kind and deserving.
