Actor Dennis Quaid, 71, shared his thoughts on President Donald Trump and reflected on his own political stance during a Feb. 18 interview on The Greg Laurie Show with Southern California pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie.
Quaid described Trump, 79, as “surprisingly approachable, very funny, and really genuine.” He added that the president’s authenticity is clear to voters, saying, “He wouldn’t be president if he wasn’t genuine. People know he has their best interest at heart.”
The Parent Trap star also noted that Trump had been discussing many of the policies he implemented as president long before taking office. “He’s been talking about it for 40 years on television,” Quaid said, adding, “I’ve never seen anyone with that kind of energy. He’s got a lot of energy.”
Quaid also reminisced about meeting former President Bill Clinton, spending an entire weekend with him after his then-wife Meg Ryan visited the White House. He humorously noted the “pretty bad” instant coffee served during his stay.
On his personal politics, Quaid described himself as a “common-sense independent” who leans conservative in some areas but prioritizes practical thinking over party lines. He acknowledged that the country has shifted politically, saying, “Things have gone extremely far left right now.”
Quaid has praised Trump before, including during his first term for handling the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the early travel bans. He framed his support in the context of national unity: “I’ve voted both ways throughout my life… this might be an opportunity for the country to come together.”
During his interview with Laurie, Quaid echoed this sentiment, suggesting the world is experiencing a “spiritual revolution” and emphasizing that unity is more important than partisan divisions.
