The unexplained disappearance of Nancy Guthrie continues to puzzle investigators and deeply concern her family.
Recently released video footage has revealed what appears to be blood droplets and stains on the front porch of the Arizona home belonging to the missing mother of Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Saturday, January 3. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the case is now being handled as a criminal investigation, with approximately 100 sheriff’s detectives assigned to the search.
The case has attracted national attention due in part to Nancy’s connection to Savannah Guthrie, one of the most recognizable television journalists in the United States.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that investigators believe Nancy was taken from her home against her will.
Four days into the intensive search, authorities say the circumstances surrounding her disappearance have become increasingly troubling rather than clearer.
According to law enforcement sources, investigators began to fear a serious crime after making several disturbing discoveries at Nancy’s Tucson residence. Reports indicate that blood was found inside the home, along with evidence suggesting forced entry. While police have characterized the scene as concerning, they have declined to release specific details.
Sources speaking to The New York Post said that blood was found inside the house and that several personal belongings, including Nancy’s phone—items she would not normally leave behind—were still present.
Additional video footage captured by NewsNation Senior National Correspondent Brian Entin shows what appears to be a blood trail leading from the front door of the home. The footage shows dark red drops and stains across the porch area, consistent with earlier descriptions of a chaotic scene, according to sources cited by The New York Post.
NewsNation reported that traces of blood were still visible outside the front door even after investigators had completed their work and the home was returned to the family.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whose blood was found at the scene. The footage surfaced just hours after an unverified ransom message was reportedly sent to TMZ, demanding a large sum in Bitcoin in exchange for Nancy’s safe return.
Another development noted by investigators is the disappearance of a Ring doorbell camera that had been installed near the home’s entrance. Sheriff Nanos confirmed that authorities are examining whether the device may have been intentionally removed.
Nancy Guthrie lived alone in a ranch-style home in the Catalina Foothills area and was last seen Saturday evening after family members dropped her off at her residence. Officials believe she may have been taken during the night.
Concern grew when Nancy failed to attend church services the following Sunday morning, prompting family members to alert authorities, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Investigators also reported that Nancy’s pacemaker stopped syncing with her monitoring devices around 2 a.m., suggesting that this may be the time she was taken. Officials warn that without access to her required medications, her health could be at serious risk.
As the investigation continues, Savannah Guthrie has stepped away from her role on the Today show and has withdrawn from covering the Winter Olympics in Italy to focus on her family. She has publicly thanked supporters and, in an Instagram post, shared a message asking for prayers.
In her message, Savannah expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and asked people to continue praying for her mother’s safe return, emphasizing faith, hope, and unity during the ordeal. She concluded by sharing a passage from the Book of Isaiah and a plea to bring her mother home.
